Another newbie
Just found the forum and have enjoyed reading through various threads/posts. Brand new WC owner. bought it yesterday and pick it up next weekend. We have been RVing for 3 years and realy enjoy it so decided to go ahead and buy a rig that should last us a while.
New purchases are a 2010 30TS and a 2009 F250 SD CrewCab 6.5' bed with 6.4PSD. Decided the time was right to buy given the discounts on trucks and RVs right now. If the economy crashes we can live in the 5er.
Since I have to put a hitch on before next weekend..do I need a slider with the new WC front cap?
Home is just Northeast of Houston.
We love to go where we can hike, run, bike and kayak. Of course in Texas tubing with a ice chest is a big state pastime in the summer and we like that also.
Looking forward to checking the forum regularly to see what is going on with others. Hope I don't need the "repair and trouble" threads that often.

to the forum. So glad to see another member from Texas. How about going to the top thread in the Meet the Members section and checking the box for Texas. All of us from this great state need to be counted. _________________

Re: Another newbie
Welcome to the forum. I am not sure about the slider for a Ford short bed, I bought one for our Chevy but really never had to use it, but the camper cap came close once.

Re: Another newbie
to the forum. I have the new front cap and with my truck, 04 GM w/6.5' bed I can get up to about a 85-88% turn. At that angle the front cap is very close on level ground. I have not had a problem yet. I have not actually gotten that close in backing into a camp spot or my drive at home. I do not have a slide hitch. My dealer said I would do just fine with the 16K Reese that I have. If I had it to do again, I might get a slider of some kind.Again, welcome and enjoy.

Re: Another newbie
to the site. I have a slider on mine and while backing into my drive at home I can turn it almost 90 degrees without deploying the slider. I bought it for a piece of mind only, thats just the way I work. My truck has a 6 ft. bed.

Welcome to the site.
I would say, get the slider, you probably wont need it, but at least you will have it.
I didn't use mine for the first 3 years, but then we went to a couple of CG's that were a little tight, glad I had it, just made maneuvering a lot easier.

As the others have said, welcome to the site. I have found this site to be very helpful and full of good ideas.
I have a similar truck as yours (mine's a 2008 F250) and the cap on my 2005 Wildcat would come too close to the cab for comfort on tight turns. I added a Sidewinder which moved the pivot point back some 18-20 inches. I can now turn well past 90 degrees without hitting the cab. I also added the 5th Airborne pin box but that was to solve a different problem.

Re: Another newbie
Wow, what a great welcome to the forum. Thanks everyone!! Decided to go with the slider - as said by others, it might be better to have it and choose not to use it than whish I had it. We pick up Saturday 12/26 and our first outing is Jan 1. Hopefully I won't report any damage or issues on the first trip.
