29RLBS Owners

Post by MountainMan on 12/20/2009, 8:21 am

Where do you guys put the drivers side rear rocker when the slide is in for traveling?

Today is actually the first day we seen our new Cat with the slides in. Our dealer is storing it for winter for us. We went by today to make sure the battery was unhooked and everything stowed properly. Upon opening the door, we learned the chair probably will not fit turned sideways between the slide and rear wall as we hoped. They had it sitting right in the walkway.

I don't like the idea of the chair blocking the walkway when traveling or scratching up the floors moving it everytime.

Have you guys come up with something better? Where/how do you strap both rockers down from moving when traveling? I didn't notice a strap for either chair and never really thought of it until today. I would think the kitchen floor would get beat up in a hurry with the current setup.

I guess you mean a 29RLBS.

Do you have the free standing table or the booth table.

We have the free standing and we've turned our table and moved it into the corner. This gives us plenty of room to move the chair between the couch and the table.

Our other chair, next to the door, has straps with D rings screwed to the floor to hold it as we go down the road.

Our 29rlbs came with straps attached to the floor on each side of the chair in the corner by the door. Unfortunately, the buckle was near the floor, and to fasten it, I'd have to get down on my knees and reach towards the back - slightly under the chair - and try to fasten the long end of the strap into the short end. Not a pretty sight, and not easy for me to do. So, I cut the strap and re-sewed it so it would fasten up higher. When we bought the trailer, the guy who did the walk-through with us didn't even mention the strap. He told us to wedge a box between one chair and the kitchen cabinet. We did that for awhile, but it was inconvenient. That's when I re-did the strap. The photo shows the chairs securely strapped to each other and to the floor. It also shows the chair protectors I made. Since that time, we built a desk in the corner that the slide covers, and replaced the rockers with comfortable office chairs. The desk and chairs can be seen in the picasa site that is in our signature.

Straps are fastened to the floor underneath the back chair, and pulled tightly across the front chair. The front chair didn't move, once secured. We put the shade up a few inches so the chair wouldn't rub it. We hook-up the office chairs in the same way, but because they are on wheels, they move a little. There is room to walk between the chairs (both kinds of chairs) and the cabinet.

Its these lightning fast fingers of mine oldelmer1. Simply too fast for my brain to catch up.

We have the booth with the table.

Thanks much for the visual Tater. I never thought about arranging them like that. Thats not bad as long as there is still room to walk by. I figured there would be a strap somewhere but never thought about it until we left the Cat today.

I also checked out your other mods in the picasa site. Very nice work and great ideas!

Thanks much guys.

I have mine in the walkway. I got rid of the other chair and put a chest of drawers in its place. It is a 4 drawer and is great for storage and when I come in I put my keys etc.. on top. We found ourselves never using that chair. So came up with the chest of drawers.

Got a photo to show us how it looks? We'd love to see it.

I got rid of the rocker type chairs that came with my 29RLBS and purchased two euro-type recliners with foot-stools from Big Lots. One of them stays in the space on the left, just inside the door, held in place by two short bungee cords from the chair frame to two "D" rings I installed. The other chair, I place upside down on the sofa, along with the two foot-stools, held in place by two cinch straps from the rear legs of the sofa to the chair. Has worked for me for 20K+ miles of towing.

I will take a picture of ours and post it later. It is misting outside now, and it is to comfortable sitting here by the fire. We have no problem with the chairs moving, also they are recliners that we purchased from a local store that have zero setback when in the reclining position.

We put the "loose" one upside down on the one by the door, then put the strap over both of them and pull it tight. Works great. When we first got the camper, I had left the strap sorta loose and the chair rubbed a small piece of fabric off of the window treatment thingy. The chair rocked back and forth as we drove and it just kept wearing away. The chair is fine.

I take the right side chair and place it in front of the sofa 's left side when the slide is in. The chair is facing toward the door. That gives me room to walk into the rest of the camper.

Frank,
Do you fasten the chair to anything to keep it from moving?

No I don't fasten it down. I have only had it to move one time and only move about 6" foward.

In picture #1 shows how the drivers side chair sits when moving slide in and out.
In picture #2 shows how the chair rides while driving down the road. Chairs can not move in this position.
Just rotate the chair up onto the couch and you can easily walk past it to the other areas of the camper without moving the slide.
When stopping at a rest area, we do move the living room slide out about six inches for more room. Maybe I should loose weight... the wife does not have a problem, just me.

We put the chair to be moved in the house and replaced it with a nice folding lawn chair (found one that matched ) this folds up and goes on the couch when on the road and is very light weight, the other chair we just turn around backwards so that it don`t get in the blinds and it rides just find also the extra chair will be handy in the house tomorrow when we have 20 people here for christmas.....

Merry Christmas
