How Much Snow?
OK all you East Coasters, its bragging rights time. Looks like this massive storm dumped some extraordinary amounts from western NC/eastern TN to most of MA. They're calling it the storm of the century in the western mountains of NC.

Re: How Much Snow?
this is as of 3PM EST, the top of my snow blower is 19 inches from the ground. I'd say we have a good 12 to 15 so far.

Just remembered why we retired in the North Georgia Mountains. We only get a dusting of the White Stuff from time to time. Enjoy your SNOW. Had more than my share thru the Years. Merry Christmas. Jim

We had blue skies and 47° today. I call it T-shirt weather. We got the storm two weeks ago. Snow is still on the ground here. Lows of about 20°.

Wow! Merry Christmas.
We have white flakes here too, but they're on the rim of my margarita glass as I sit by the pool. "Been there, done that, still have the tee shirt". Sorry, but that's why I live here now..

Re: How Much Snow?
Tom's snow reminds Scruffy and me of winters past. We left Chicago in 1984 and headed to Gulfport, MS. We were glad to be leaving the snow and cold temps. Here in D/FW we get snow and freezing rain, but it goes away quickly - usually. It's pretty if you don't have to drive anywhere.

Mike,
My snowblower broke!!!!!! Augers wont go around anymore, but the driveshaft is still turning. Guess I broke a pin somewhere.
Anyone ever work on a Gravey snowblower before?

Tom,
You broke a shear pin. There made that way so that when something gets jammed in the auger, it won't damage the engine. Sometimes the auger is split into two halves and there are two shear pins; one for each side. Sounds like you have one auger. The hardware store should have the shear pins you need.

Re: How Much Snow?
Thanks Mike,
Thats what I was thinking too, but I cant find the shear pin location. I did see on each end of the augers there is a bolt with a cotter pin going through it. But they seem to be OK.
I'll have to look a little close after the snow all melts off of it.

Tom,
I hope you didn't shear one of the gears in the differential that transfers power from the drive shaft to the auger shaft.
YIKES

Mike,
I can see the axle inside the augers turning, but I cant find a shear pin anywhere.
So, I took it to the Gravely dealer today. Its never been worked on, probably since it was made back in 1968, so I guess its time for an overhaul.

1" in Southeastern Va
1" in Cleveland,Ohio
Up to 18" to 20" in between the two locations yesterday.
Routes traveled US58. VA35, I-95, I-295 US17, I-66, I-81, I-70
Penn. Turnpike and Ohio Turnpike.
The only problem was:
I took us 2 hours to go from mile marker 98 to mile marker 105 on
I-95 north because of snow on highway. All of the others was ok

Re: How Much Snow?
I started this thread, so I'll chime in with our totals here in New England.
The air was very, very dry over NH. In Windham we barely received 5" of snow, and with the snow so dry, in many places the NW wind swept some areas completely bare, while others had 12" dirfts.
Not so just 30 miles to our south. Boston clocked in with 12" and places along Long Island Sound (CT, RI and MA) got hit with 15"+.
This was really a weird storm for us, but the DW and I are glad that we received so little. It'll be easier to pull the Cat out of her storage area alongside the house.
Glad you all seemed to survive this last blast of winter for 2009.

Re: How Much Snow?
The D/FW area is having it's first white christmas in 83 years. Our lawn was pretty much covered when we got home from our daughter and son-in-law's near Arlington, but most of it blew away during the night. Our air-blown Santa tried to fly away, and when it warms up a bit we'll see if he's okay, we're hoping there aren't any holes and that the fan still works.
There was a lot more snow in Arlington than where we live - we're farther south.
Roads were icy when we drove home last night, but temps in our area will get warm enough to clear the highways.
We didn't get enough to bother with taking a picture.

Dumped 22 inches here in the mountains. Today is a different story. All ICE. 30,000 without power and tree's down every where. A good Christmas just to be with family and fireplaces. LOL. Can't wait to see Wildcat season arrive. Merry Christmas to everyone.
