Ram or not?

Post by beartoo on 11/26/2009, 1:45 am

First topic message reminder :

I have been looking at 3/4 ton TV. I have been a long time Ford owner and most of my family and friends have GM products. I talked to my Ford mechanic yesterday and ask him what I should do for a TV. He said to look at the 2500 Ram with a Cummins diesel. I have never been a Dodge fan, drove on for work an didn't like the way it handled or the ride. That was in the early 70's. I live in a cold climate and not sure how it will work here, diesels not liking the cold and all. Do they ever get warm in the cab like the gas engine? Are the comfortable for driving?

Help this is driving me nuts!

Bear,
Looks great! Actually, it looks a LOT like ours. Is it a bright fire engine red or a deep slightly darker red? Under the lights it's hard to tell. Ours is fire engine red. It would be neat to have them side-by-side sometime.

Don't forget to change your signature from F150 to F350.

You have a very nice looking truck. I think you will be very happy that you purchased a one ton.

I have the Chevy 2500 6.0 gasser. I agree with the observation that it pulls great at about 2700 rpm and 60-65 mph. That rpm and speed range sucks up gas like crazy. I am also 7-9 mpg while towing the Cat. So I can go about 180 miles and it is time to fuel up!

Love the truck...but might go with the Duramax on my next go round.

Maxtor wrote:It has been debated for many years.,,, Ford, Dodge, Chevy,,, but I think we can all agree is if they built a pickup where they used the Ford body and frame, Dodge cummins engine and Chevy allison transmission, you would have the perfect pickup. It would be nice for some aftermarket company to do that, and they would sell millions of trucks.

You nailed it on the head. I love the Ford Interior but was leery of the new 6.4L diesel engine. Something doesn't sit well with me when a company is completely changing engines every year or two. The dodge has a great engine in the cummins platform but dodge never did anything for my in the truck interior or exterior. In the end I settled on the chevy with the duramax/allison combo and couldn't be happier. I just wish chevy came with a little more ground clearance from the factory; but I solved that right quick with a leveling kit and larger tires
