'Tis the Season.....to Sleep

Post by WntRunn on 11/12/2009, 12:30 am

New-b here and looking for tips!! This is our first year owning a 'Cat.' We are taking her out one more time over the Thanksgiving holiday then will get her ready to hibernate over the winter months. Looking for all kinds of suggestions and tips before putting her to bed!! (We live in Central Virginia – where we can have cold winters.)

Thanks

to the forum. You'll find lots of tips in here. Read the DIY Improvements, Maintenance, and High Tech forums for lots of ideas. And please click on the links that some of us provide in our signatures to see pictures and photo instructions for our mods and improvements. If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. If you don't have time to look at all that stuff, but have a specific problem you want to address asap, ask - someone here has probably dealt with the same issue.

We'd also like to see pictures of your own mods or your modifications of our mods.

Glad to have you here.

to the forum.

As Tater stated, lots to read, and just ask.

Best thing to do is, get the winterizing kit:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0006JJ588/ref=asc_df_B0006JJ588961341?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=googlecom09c9-20&linkCode=asn&creative=380341&creativeASIN=B0006JJ588

And 3 to 4 gallons of RV anti freeze, then just pump it into all the pipes. Pour some into the drains, some into the toilet(so the seal doesnt dry up), drain all the tanks, remove battery. If you have vent toppers, crack the vents 1/2 inch for air circulation.

Be sure to clean out all the food from the camper so no mice try to get in.

Also, get underneath the CAT and check all the holes that the pipes come through, be sure to tape them up so mice cant get in. I use Gorilla tape, works better than duck tape.

Remember, do not put anti-freeze in your water tank or your hot water tank. If you do you won't get the taste out for a long time. There is a by-pass for the hot water tank. Also when installing the winterizing kit, install it beyond the water tank but before the pump.
