What is this called?

Is there a name for this strap? It is attached to the divider, and snaps onto the sliding door. The snap is holding on with just two threads. One bounce when we're traveling, and it's toast. We're going to a trailer supply store tomorrow to see if we can get one, but it would help if we knew what we are looking for.
If you can tell us, thanks.

Sliding Door Pin
Tater: This is how I hold the sliding door in place. The pin has a spring ball on the end & side. Drilled the hole so the pin will be a tight fit.

Re: What is this called?
I replaced our "plastic" strap with a leather one. Only problem I had was finding the small snaps. The leather strap cost two dollars at a leather shop where they make horse saddles and other leather parts.

Re: What is this called?
You can make your own strap. You can get snaps at West Marine, both the screw on type for the wood, and the cap piece for the strap. You can also buy the tool for putting the snaps on from them. I have used the tool for several different types of straps. I used black nylon strapping from REI sporting goods or you can use leather.

Re: What is this called?
We don't have any tools with us to make our own strap. If we were at home, this wouldn't be a problem. Our strap will fall apart completely after just a few bumps. It was fine when we left home.
Frank's pin looks like a good idea to do after we get home.
We're hoping Camping World in Kissimmee has something that will work - just wish we knew what it's called. I guess I can take the camera with and show them the picture.

Tater,
Sliding door strap, maybe???
Can you just take the old one with you? The snap that holds it to the frame should have a philips head.

Another option for a quick fix, couldn't you sew the strap back together temporarily? I am sure you have a sewing kit with you since you are so handy with the decor.

Re: What is this called?
It's a pocket door strap. I replaced mine a couple months back. One of the dealers in town made it right there in front of me and said no charge. I can't argue with that.

Re: What is this called?
Thanks for all the suggestions.
The salesperson at Camping World said Joann Fabrics has these straps. Exactly what we want with the snaps already in. We decided to get a tension bar instead. When we get home, we'll make something suitable that will last.
The strap is totally frayed beyond the snap. The snap is holding on to two threads, that's all. Not fixable, not even by handy me.
Our next one won't have a snap.

Re: What is this called?
Scruffy & Tater,
Too late for you now, but when I saw that the end of the strap was beginning to unravel, I heated up the end of a broad blade screw driver (over the gas stove) and melted the end to stop the unraveling. It worked and I've had no trouble since. I just wish I'd posted this earlier as a quick fix.

Mike,
That's a good idea. We tried it about a year ago - and it helped for awhile. We were thinking about putting some industrial strength velcro on the door. We might do that in addition to the tension rod.

My strap came apart during the PDI and they ordered one from FR. I try to be gentle with it, but the second one is starting to come apart.

I like maxtors leather strap Idea, you could have something engraved in it while your at it.

Re: What is this called?
Scruffy likes the leather strap suggestion. Right now we have a piece of industrial velcro attached to the door. Scruffy removed the snap and then put the snap back on to help hold the velcro. I stapled a couple strips of regular (non-sticky) velcro to the strap. The velcro holds pretty well, but just to be on the safe side, we also have a tension rod between the door and the entertainment center.
We'll do a permanent fix real soon.

Re: What is this called?
Late reply, sorry...
When we blew ours out I took a chunk of velcro and screwed part in where the small snap part goes. I doubled that over on itself to increase it strength. Then I did the same for the strap, with the other side of the velcro.
Put another 10-15K miles on the unit and it held. Butt ugly though.

Re: What is this called?
This is our solution for the problem shown at the top of this thread. It's hard to see from the above photo that the snap is holding on with just two thin threads. Even though we melted the end of the strap, it frayed so badly that the snap was completely exposed.
We went to Jo-ann Fabrics and purchased snaps and a snap installation tool for that size snap. We removed the existing strap. The end that was attached to the divider had a triple fold. Scruffy unfolded the strap and decided it would be long enough for our "fix." He put a double fold on each end. He used the installation kit to install a female snap into one end, leaving enough strap to hold a key ring. The other end with a male snap was attached to the divider. It is holding very well..... and the ring on the end makes it very easy to unsnap. We had some black strapping, so Scruffy made a spare, just in case - but we don't think we're going to need it.

Our temporary fix removed some of the finish off the edge of the sliding door. We'll fix that as soon as the weather gets a bit warmer.
