FL - WDW - Fort Wilderness - again

Post by Scruffy and Tater on 11/10/2009, 10:20 am

We love this place - that's all there is to it! I've written about it before, and posted photos. Go down the list of reviews, if you need or want info. We've seen two flocks of wild turkeys so far. You'd think they would go into hiding with Thanksgiving just around the corner. One was pecking at a nice shiny hubcap on a motorhome. That owner might wonder where all those little dents came from.

Here's a new photo - I'll probably post a couple more before this trip is over.

We were there in the summer of 2001 and saw Peacocks walking around all over the place. Went back in the summer of 2007 and there weren't any around. Do you know when they were taken away and why? We agree it is a great place to go, I just wish it wasn't 1500 miles away.

The peacocks were taken to Animal Kingdom. They were fun to watch. We would sit on the porch at Trail's End in the evening and watch them go up in the trees to roost. There were a lot of rocking chairs on the porch back in the old days, now there are just a few.

How about this one.

Turkey sees self reflected in shiny wheel. Turkey falls in love and kisses reflection. Bright shiny wheel has lots of turkey kisses in it. Motorhome owner probably won't like turkey kisses.

There aren't a whole lot of decorations in the campsites right now - in between holidays. Most of the halloween stuff is gone, and a few people are setting up Christmas decorations. This is our favorite - it covers Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Just playing around here. This is a panorama of our site from where I was sitting - under the canopy about where the gas bottle door is located. Scruffy is sitting near the back of the Cat. The truck is parked about 10 feet in front of the trailer.

This is our front yard. We love this site.

The people with those great Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas decorations are at the end of loop 100 right by the path that goes to Trail's End, Pioneer Hall, Settlement Trading Post and Marina.

Hey Guys,

Very nice panaorama. I can just barely make out where the software joined that individual shots. Very, very nice.

Uh........ there are some downsides to this campsite.

On the far side of our lovely lawn is a road and a bus stop. People drive by all day so we don't have much privacy.

Busses run until 2:00am, and when they stop, they go beep-beep-beep.

The tall pine trees block the southern sky, so we can't get a signal for our Direct TV.

Those same pine trees drop pine straw all over the place. We brought home quite a bit in the bed of our truck.

Thats why I like the loops on the right side going past the pool, loop 100/200/300 They're all hardwoods.

The down side to that is, when those afternoon storms come through in the summer months, it can make a limb come crashing through your roof. The guy next to me had this happen , put a good half dollar size hole in his roof. The management did help him out though and made it sound like the park insurance would pay for damages. ? I wish I knew the final outcome of that ...

I live in a pine thicket, you should see the pollen storms in the spring.

We had pine trees on our property in Gulfport, MS. We'd gather the pine straw and put it around our azaleas as mulch. We had beautiful azaleas.

Loops 100, 200, and 300 are just too crowded for us. We like wide open spaces, and I think our favorite site is probably the most spacious site in the campground.

Since staying in that "perfect" spot, we've discovered about 6 that might be equally perfect. We just have to schedule some more trips to try them out.

I PM"d you with my number, if you would give me a call about the fort. I stayed in 300 last time, but was wondering about another loop or if they had remodeled those lake side loops yet ...
