Wildcat Chassis?
Does Wildcat have a problem with there chassis? In another forum they are saying they use "Lippert frames", and they are a poor chassis. Anyone here know anything about this, or have they fixed their quality issues ?

Re: Wildcat Chassis?
My understanding is that Lippert builds frames for many different makes amd models. I would think that if a Lippert frame was basically a bad frame, it would appear in other models other than Wildcats. Probably like any automobile that some folks claim (and there may be some truth to this) that the quality depends on the day of the week it was manufactured. I have read some horror stories of some of the issues about frame failures, etc., but I haven't had any problems with mine--yet. But then, you don't get many posts about all the "good" frames, just a relatively few that seem to have problems. But then, like everything else, that is little consolation to the few that have those problems!!!

I was worried, if I made the right decision with buying a Cat. Thursday we pick up our 24RL, and I hope we don't have a problem.
The way they push the extended warranty and insurance it makes you wonder if you are getting a lemon.

Re: Wildcat Chassis?
On some of the early run 2007 Wildcats (5th wheel models only), they had a problem with the Lippert frames. The outriggers that attach to the box and help keep it level on the frame were welded on wrong. It was not a wide-spread problem, and to the best of my knowledge, was fixed in short order.
I continually read several different RV forums, and have not heard of any more problems cropping up with the Lippert frames. I would not be concerned.

Re: Wildcat Chassis?
TC,
The only failure problems that I've seen posted have mostly to do with the failure of the pin-box welds. I don't think that it's a coinsidence that the reports come from those who have modified their units to use the gooseneck adapter. JMHO

You may want to consider adding one of the several different brands of pin boxes on the market that improves towing, such as Trailair, Demco, and others. In addition to the improvement in vehicle ride, it also takes a lot of the stress off the frame of the unit, as it is not constantly receiving a "pounding" from the up and down motion of the fifth wheel plate. I personally have a Trailair, but ask about the others and you will get a myriad of "mine's better" replies. It is, in my opinion, a small investment into a rather large investment already which should help extend the life of the unit also as well as improved ride. Just my .02 cents worth.

Re: Wildcat Chassis?
beartoo make sure the dealer gives you the paper work on the extended warranty that FR will let you purchase for $200.00 and that will give you two years of coverage. I didn't purchase any extended warranty like 7 years from a dealer. I think that is a good way for them to make extra money. I did purchase the 2nd year from FR and I had only a couple of things happen to the Cat. Save your money and put it in a saving account to use for repairs down the road to pay if you need it fix at a RV dealer.

The pin box I am getting with it is the Trail-Air™ Roto-Flex Pin Box. Is it any good?
Rhino
They said the FR extended warranty would be with my paperwork.

I have the original version, which greatly reduces the up/down motion, but I think I am correct in saying that the Roto Flex ALSO improves the back/forth motion, which is probably an improvement over mine. Maybe someone who has the Roto Flex will chime in.

Re: Wildcat Chassis?
We have a 24RL made 10/24/06, with a trailair hitch, should I be concerned? I did have one screw head pull through the fiberglass. It was right behind the pin box, I used the same screw with a fender washer. I have had the screws around the trim on the pin box work out,but it seems that the screws only go into the fiberglass. Is there any information as to vin numbers that had this problem?
