Re: Just Ordered a 2010 28RKBS
Congratulations and welcome to the forum. We purchased an 08 28 RKBS in spring and are extremely pleased with the comfortable layout and generous storage space inside and out. We pull it with the exact same tow vehicle that you have. It handles like a champ. Did you get the hydraulic landing gear? Our last fiver had electric. The cat has hydraulic. That is one option I will never do without in the future. December will be here before you know it!

Re: Just Ordered a 2010 28RKBS
Thanks for the encouraging words, I am glad your happy with yours I know we are going to love the new Cat. I didnt opt for the hydro landing gear. I figured if I ever had any problems with the electric landing gear I would be able to work on it and fix it. The hydro was a different animal I would be up _ _ it creek without a padal. With all of the homework I did people on the forum seemed to be very happy with the electric landing gear. The only complaint I heard about them was they were slower than the hydro.
Khuber, I do have a question for you regarding your hitch, did you get one with a slider I have been looking at the attached hitch.

bsmall2800, if your looking at hitches you should really checkout a superglide by Pullrite. No having to pull a lever to slide the hitch. I would not have a short bed truck without one, takes the worry out of tight turns. A little more expensive and there is a little more maintenance in lubing the rails, but it is worth it.

Bill, I do not have a slider hitch. I have a Hi Jacker 24-UL-16. I have this hitch for over 12 years. I previously pulled a 26' Starcraft 5th wheel with a 1997 Chevy K2500 short bed and never had an issue. I have not had any issues with the GMC and Cat combo as well. When I first purchased the cat I did several very tight practice turns at home to verify that I had adequate clearance and there were no issues.

I have the same fiver and truck bed you do. I do have the Reese Signature with slider. The hitch head is the best I have ever used. I love the wrap around jaw. Very positive locking, plus, if not properly latched, you can't install the safety pin. Having said that, also have never used the slider feature. I do have to turn real tight to get into the storage lot. The new Wildcat front end has the clipped corners which give more clearance.
I know you will enjoy your new rig, we love ours.

John, I am curious as to what type of fuel mileage you are getting while towing and empty? Also how many miles do your currently have on your truck?

Re: Just Ordered a 2010 28RKBS
Our truck isn't our daily driver, so it has only 13,000 miles on it. I love the way it pulls and it has been trouble free. And...truth be known...I have no idea about the mileage. I never have gotten around to looking at the DIC or figuring it out the old fashioned way. I always figured if you drive a 6000 lb. truck pulling a 10,000 lb. trailer, gas mileage should not be a major concern of mine.
I have read some of the claims out there about mileage. Some of them make me roll my eyes around. Especially the ones who say they have 16,000 lbs. rolling down the highway at 65mph and they get 18mpg. Personally, I would be happy with 10/11mpg while towing. If I were to guess, it's around that. I do wish the truck had a bigger tank, or auxiliary tanks weren't so expensive.

I have a 2008 Chevy 3500 extra cab long bed SRW, and I get about 18mpg empty. Towing I think is about 12mpg. As John said fuel milage is what it is.

Re: Just Ordered a 2010 28RKBS
You are correct. When looking at the diesel forums there are some pretty amazing claims that you cannot believe. I'm right in line with what Jim gets. I end up between 11 & 12 towing and between 18 and 19 solo. I haven't had it on a good long highway run while towing. The highest I ever got was 12.3 towing and 22.5 solo. That is from the DIC which holds real close to hand calculations. I must have had a good tail wind the day I got the 22.5. I currently have 7,500 miles on the truck. I don't use it for a daily driver either. Thanks for sharing your info.

I have to agree with KH on the mileage, mine is the same as his however, I cant say what the mileage is for towing yet.

I get the same mileage as KHUBER on a 3500 DRW GMC 6.6. When I got into the hills of NC & TN I did drop down to 9.8 on this last trip.
I drive 62MPH
