Wheel Bearing

Post by H.O.G. Hauler on 10/10/2009, 3:22 pm

It appears that I only post bad news!! 2009 ToyHauler bought in March less than 5,000 miles on it.

We were on I-15 in Utah and people were going by tooting and pointing. Luckily, we were near an exit and pulled off to discover our wheel was all wobbly and ready to fall off. We had to go 1 mile into town and stopped at a NAPA store and the guy said he could help us but, we had to go around the block to enter his shop. As we made the turn - the wheel fell off!!! We immediately unloaded the 900 lb Harley and dragged the camper screeching and scraping into the shop. The Sealed/No Grease wheel bearing fell off. Called Rod Batts and he put me in touch with Lippert. Lippert overnighted a new axel and the complete wheel assembly. NAPA put it together and off we went to Hurricane Utah outside of Zion. Took it to Nelson's RV to get a parts list for the panel repairs. We are now waiting for the parts and then we have to get the toe and camber adjusted on the new axel as it is not towing straight.

Luckily, it's only mechanical and we're OK. We had just come thru Red Rock Canyon with a 12% grade!!!! That would not have been pretty!!

LIFE IS AN ADVENTURE - NOT A DESTINATION!

Actually, the camper is in better shape then my body as we did a 5.5 mile hike in Zion today - 1500 feet straght UP!! I'm POOPED!!

I'd be looking at the bearings on the other axle as well. If there sealed bearings , i'd yank'm out and put some " TimKin" name brand bearings in there. Not napa, not autozone, but " TimKin"
Hope everything else is going OK for ya'll.
A five mile hike up I can do. It the coming back down that kills my knee's.

That's a thought! Were they sealed bearings? Sure hope not. I have only seen the new sealed bearings on the 2010 models at the camper show this past September. The sealed bearings might be a good idea. They put them on cars and that was scarry at first, hard to get comfortable with at first.
