Side marker lights for lane changes
I have an idea that should work; in theory, but need some technical advice and opinions:
Ever since I purchased our CAT, I've had trouble seeing the back corner clearance lights out of my extended mirrors. This is especially bad when driving at night. I like driving at night; there's not nearly as much traffic on the road when we're going cross country. Having said that, my original idea was to try to install higher profile clearance lights that I could see over the awning rails, etc. But I got to thinking about the Buick Park Avenue my folks used to drive...it had side marker lights that would light up when you put your turn signal on and would illuminate the lane you were turning into. Why couldn't I do something like that on the back of our CAT and wire it into the rear blinkers?

Glad you mentioned that.
I've got an inventer Friend who just the other day told me he was in the patent process for a new invention. I'd almost forgot to post it here until I saw your message.
What is it I said ?
Its " Wireless Marker Lights for Trailers ". You have something that plugs into your wiring harness, Then it sends a signal to where ever you have the lights hanging.
You can put them where ever you want , be mindful there in the right area that they need to be in though.
He said he came up with that because he has a really big boat and he was riding behind it while someone else was driving his truck and he couldn't see the trailer lights very good. So he thought Why not be able to put them up high or where ever you need them to be. So he came up with this. I think all he has right now is the prototype and the patent in process or maybe already done by now, and will be looking for a Manuf. as of right now. I told him he'd make a fortune just off the RV industry. then another fortune off utility and boat trailers........ Then another fortune off of LOG TRUCKs.
What ya think about that ?

Re: Side marker lights for lane changes
Sounds like he might be onto something Admin.
I was looking at Scott's mods, and his backup lights got the gears grinding. I think his mod + the Buick side marker lights made me put two & two together. I was looking on eBay at various models of auto side marker lights and thought that a number of them could be attached to the side of the CAT without too much trouble. Not sure how to wire the lights into the turn signals so they'd only come on when the turn signals were blinking.
Talking to the dealership, it seems my problem of not being able to see the back corners from my extended mirrors is uncommon. Go figure!!

Re: Side marker lights for lane changes
It could be done pretty easy. My mod would need to be changed so that the back lights don't come on. You also have to figure a way to switch them on and have them stay on instead of flashing with your turn signal. Our car ('05 Mercury) still has them.
