Jonestown KOA - 10/02 & 10/03
This was our last stop on the way home. We used the extra day to clean the Cat from stem to stern, empty, flush and sanitize the tanks and generally get her ready for winter. Will winterize the water lines in a couple of weeks.
This is a KOA that has been a favorite of ours over the years. On our way out in the spring it's the first stop we've made and on the way home in the fall it's usually the last stop we make. As KOA's go, we had rated this one about a 9 on a scale of 1 - 10.
But it's difficult to see a valued campground start to go downhill. We missed stopping here last year, cause we left the Cat in storage in NC. So it was surprising to see that the grounds were getting that seedy look; un-mowed grass, weeds growing the the playground, painting needed here and there. When we pulled in on Friday we were assigned a pull-thru and when we got there (unescorted) we found that there had been a major black water spill at the site. The same was true of the next site over. Looked like there had been an unreported backup in the sewer line.
We reported this and the woman who registered us came down to look it over and said she would tell the owner. Later on we noticed that the picnic tables at the two sites had been moved to block access, but when we left on Sunday morning, the spills still had not been treated or cleaned up.
To us it was just another indicator that this CG is going bad fast. Other signs were the four feral cats that were roaming the CG with nothing being done about it and garbage left uncollected from Friday through Sunday a.m., although their brochure stated that collection was between 10 a.m. and noon each day.
Sadly, this is one CG that we're crossing off of our travel list. We wouldn't be surprised to see KOA corporate lift their franchise.
