A Roof Bubble Like You've Never Seen!

Post by schrowang on 9/20/2009, 3:05 pm

I've been forgetting to post this one, but here it is.

Somewhere on I-40 (probably in NM or AZ) we saw a 5th Wheeler coming towards us going eastbound. The lanes were pretty close together, so I got a good look at his 5'er. The whole front of the roof membrain, from the nose back to the first vent hatch was bubbled up like a big baloon. I had to look twice to confirm what I was seeing. He had a CB antenna on the truck and I tried to contact him, but either he had peanut butter in his ears or his set was not turned on.

Sad thing is, he probably doesn't even know this is going on. The 5'er was a Jayco, not sure of the model though.

Yikes

I've seen the same thing. And I agree, he has no idea because you can't see it in the mirrors and at slow speeds pulling into an rv park it's not gonna do it.

You always see it going in the opposite direction.

I found my front roof blows up as described above while in Fl the last two weeks. I called my dealer who said he has seen this before and when I get home to bring in to him and they will pull the roof back and re-glue it. The other problem from the pressure of the bubble is the vent cover has cut the roof rubber at the front of the vent and down each side about two inches. The camper is about 14 months old and covered under FR two year warranty. It will be interesting just how they will deal with the cut rubber. Other than that we spent two great weeks at Henderson Beach SP, in Destin Fl, a great camp ground. Ben there for the past 6 years the first part of Sept. I did put a layer of self leveling caulk on the cut area. The best part was on the whole trip we did not get a drop of rain so no water got under the rubber. Will be taking to the dealer this Thursday.

Has anyone on the forum had this problem before?

While on this trip I saw several WCs on the road and one in camp at Destin. I never could catch anyone at the one in camp. I did leave a note with my camp site number and an invitation to come by. I also left the forum web address.

Well,
I got the cat back today from having a new roof put on. They did a great job. My dealer said my original roof was glued on but did not stick good. The new roof is very smooth looking and pretty white. Glad to have it back and I will be taking it out next Wednesday to the woods for 10 days. Cool
