Seal around large slide

Post by bags24 on 9/19/2009, 6:48 am

I was giving the cat a bath, and noticed that on the large slide, toward the rear of the slide the seal is almost flat not touching the slide and is dragging the calk all along the back side of the slide.
I took a razor scraper and removed most of the calk from the side. Ive never noticed the seal flat its usually dragging along the side.
The slide opens and closes no problem, no leaks.
Im thinking it may be out of allignment front to back, but all the bolts seem tight, and the seal on the front of the slide seems the same as usual.
Any ideas?

I just removed the calk on my bedroom slide and use mineral sprits and was very easy to get off. I also had part of the seal pull out on the side and it leak water in the bedroom. I fix it and now notice the large slide the inside seal was coming off. Will it every stop.

My slide has always done that since day one. The nasty caulk just wipes all over the window and all along the side of the slide. Luckily, it has never leaked. I did adjust my slide once. It's just the caulk that drives us crazy. WD40 does wonders on the gummy, gooie caulking.

This may sound like a stupid question, but where is the caulking coming from? Not having had this problem, I don't have a clue. Thanks guys.

I've had the same problem with the caulking streaking down the slideout when being opened or closed. Laquer thinner does a great job of cleaning it.

The caulk is coming from where the inside flange is mounted to the slideout. There is a white seal there that has caulk around it. I took the time and cleaned off the excess and also adjusted my slide and don't have the problem anymore.

Im thinking of a caulk tape and see if this cures it. Ive never seen caulk that gooey and sticky after 3 yrs. We bought our Cat in Oct of 06 and this is the first time its happened, im thinking of trying to adjust the slide to see if i can get the seal to drag along the side of the slide like it always had.

Mine was so gooey that it was pulling the inside rubber out of its track. I cleaned it all off the put a strip of white electric tape down the length of the rest of the caulk joint.

Mike, the caulk joint is exactly where BIG DAVE says, where the white slide seal meets up with the slide, sort of on the outside. If you have your slide in, follow the white seal from the inside molding over to the fiberglass of the outside slide wall.

Bags,

No problem at all, I think the remaining caulk was helping the tape to stay in place. And my inside seals havent moved a bit.

Slide out seals

Post by akus on 6/17/2010, 11:29 am

I purchased an 08 wildcat new and have had problems from the start with the slides took them back twice to the dealer and once it went back to the forest river to be repaired. my seals also keep pulling off when the slide out goes in and out.
brought it back to the dealer to be fixed and i get home and slide them out and the seal is laying on the floor of the bedroom. I am getting very frustrated. The extended warranty i find out does not cover them either. Would a person be better off applying silicone to the seal and reinstall it back in place.

Did you ever determine a fix for the seals coming loose? We just bought a very nice used 28rk and I have gone over everything trying to get it just right before the season. I can't fix those seals on the main slide. About every 4th slide out they come off on one end and the top. I thought about glue or even bending the aluminum pc they fit onto. Anyone have any ideas? HELP

Yes! I took the time to clean all the caulking off the sides and windows of the slide first with automotive tar and bug remover it worked great.
Then I did the same to the side seals on both the large slide and bedroom slide seals. I have not had the same problem with the top seals yet.
After cleaning the seals make sure you use a slide silicone spray on them so they do not stick in hot weather. Then i took a tube of clear silicone and ran a bead all the way down the seal in the groove that it pushes on to the channel. This all has to be done with the slide half the way out and it is work to reach in there.

After that was done I purchased some white colored electric tape and applied it to side where the extra caulking was by the seal. This has to be done from the out side and the slide needs to be all the way out its best if you have somebody hold the rubber gasket out well you put on the tape. It has worked great and have not had any more problems.

I have to say that "akus" did exactly what I did. It was a sure fix!! I have never had a problem since. The white sticky caulk is the cause of all the problems. Do the exact steps akus stated and you will be done. The whole process will make you cuss FR quite abit. It takes a while, but it's worth it. Just another sign of poor workmanship on FR's part.

The only problem we have had with the big slide so far is the fit. Another great job by FR.
