Kingman KOA - 09/15/09
This is an interesting campground. It is located right smack dab in the middle of a residential area, but I'm pretty sure that the residences grew up around it. That being said .....
It had all the amenities that one could ask for, but the park is surrounded on two sides by an associated trailer park. They front the park on Roosevelt Ave and Kino Street with the units back to back with units that face into the park. The units that we saw were all older mobile homes, although well kept. There didn't seem to be any problems, but it didn't feel like a real campground.
The pull through sites had side by side services, but were long enough and wide enough for both the slides and the awning. Kind of dusty, but that's the desert. The staff was friendly and helpful and we were escorted to our site (always a plus). The pool was good and the baths were clean and orderly. Truly and overniter, but we'd stay there again on the way by.

Will you be going past Wilcox, AZ. They had a place that had the largest Apple pie in the world like 8 lbs of apple. You could purchase any size you wanted like 1/4 with ice cream and feed two people. Love that place.

We stood on the corner. That was before the fire that destroyed most of the building that the mural is painted on. All that survived was that wall. They put supports up to keep the wall from falling, and fenced it off. I think they've done something more permanent and have removed the fence. We went by after the fire, while the fence was up. It was kind of sad. We always make sure we're listening to an Eagles CD with "Take It Easy" while driving down I-40 near Winslow.

DW and I did that in 2007 when we did the Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde and Durango. What a hoot. Got the pix to prove it. Now I hear that the marker isn't in the right spot. Read on the news that it's actually about 3.5 miles to the east. This was due to a surveying error made about 100 years ago by the U.S. Government. Who would have believed it.
Aha!!!!!!! Now I get it. Standing on the corner in Winslow, AZ. Duh
Wakey, Wakey, Mikey.

Oh - maybe there's another "corner" to stand on. One that isn't related to the song, but is equally famous for it's own reason? I'll have to google it.

Actually, I was referring to the song, and Winslow, AZ. We were there in 2006....
Mike, have a safe trip.

Re: Kingman KOA - 09/15/09
Well ..... at first I assumed you were referring to Winslow, cuz that's the only corner I could think of. Then I thought, maybe there's another corner, maybe not a street corner, that I don't know about. After all, Tom, you and Sharon travel a LOT, and if there IS another corner of some sort, I want to know, so we don't miss it next time we're through there. Glad you explained.

Hi Tater,
Nope, no other corner that I can think of. But, if we run across one, I'll let you know

Actually, I was originally thinks of the 4 Corners (hence 90% of my post). We did stand on the corner[s] there. Been by Winslow, AZ a few times but never stopped. Ironically, we heard the song on XM when we were in AZ.
Tom,
It didn't occur to me that you were talking about Winslow until the dawn broke over my head. By then I had too much invested in the original post to rewrite.
From Scruffy and Tater, it sounds like that part of Winslow burned down.
Too bad.
