On The Road Again
"Gee it's good to be on the road again!" It felt really good to hook up the Cat, get behind the wheel of the Ram, crank up the old Cummins and get out on the road. Thank you Willy Nelson.
Day 1 - Traveling west on I-40 through the mountain passes of western NC and eastern TN. Cloudy all morning with intermitent showers along the way. Passed by Oak Ridge and Lebanon (home of the original Cracker Barrel) and finally hit the Nashville KOA at 1:30 p.m. (due to the one hour gain as we passed into the Central Time Zone.
Day 2 - Sight seeing day in Nashville. We took the Gray Line tour of the city. Saw the Country Music Hall of Fame, Ryman Auditorium, Music Row, and Honky Tonk Row in downtown. A very relaxing and informative tour of Music City.

They call it the Mother Church of Country Music. When we toured the Ryman, I got goosebumps thinking of all the talent that had performed on its stage for the Grand Old Opry. For us this was a highlight of the tour.
After lunch we spent 3 hours at Opry Mills. This is a huge outlet mall built on the site of the old Opryland Amusement Park. The DW spend most of her time browsing and I spent mine in the Bass Pro Shop outlet and the Barnes and Noble Outlet. All in all it was a great day.
Day 3 - Another travel day going west on I-40. Went around Memphis on I-240 and really had to watch the exit signs to pick up I-55 to cross the Mississippi into AR and then pick up I-40 again. By the time we got to North Little Rock the clouds had turned to rain.
Day 4 - More travel westbound. Rain, rain and more rain! I-40 in western AR and all of OK is a mess. The trucks have really chewed up the granny lane and it's pretty bumpy most of the way. You really appreciate those smooth stretches of macadam, though they're few and far between. See my report on Rockwell RV Park in OK City.
Day 5 - Rain in the AM through OK and across most of TX. It began clearing as we hit the NM border and the sun was a welcome sight. Passed by the leaning water tower in TX, but due to the rain, no stop and no pix. Made Tucumcari at 2:30 PM and pulled into the KOA. There is a very large and picturesque mesa just behind and to the south of town. I'll try and get a shot tomorrow morning when the sun is right. Nice park, friendly people and a long, wide site. Couldn't ask for much more. Tomorrow we'll be in Gallup, NM.
