plumbing vent

Post by rdsknfn_57 on 9/9/2009, 2:31 am

While on vacation last week, a tree branch caught one of my pluming vents on top, i called the dealer were i normally have my 5er worked on and the parts department told me that on a few wildcats that they put a vent on that was a dealer item only. Normally a vent cost around 2 to 4 bucks, the parts lady called me back and told me the vent would cost $21 plus $9 to ship it to them and then $9 to ship it to me.( dealer is 100 milesaway from me ) It could not be shipped directly from the factory to a customer. The only difference between mine and other ones is mine has a resest screw. i went online last night and found it for $2.07 with $3 shipping ____________go figure. . $40 for a $4 part. at the dealership. now i rember why i did'nt buy my 5er there.

Too true. I lost an oven knob once (don't use the knob to hang a garbage bag). Local dealer wanted $10+$10 shipping/handling. Camping World...$1.57+tax and a couple bucks shipping.

Mark,

Get up on the roof, measure the diameter of the pipe and I think you'll find that that $4.00 vent cap that Camping World sells will fit your application. They also sell those new fangled, expensive ones too. But, the diameter of the vent pipes is usually the same from brand to brand.

Best of luck!

Mark give Forest River parts a call and they will sell it to you and ship directly to your house. I lost the phone number again and I know that it has been post on the forum several times.

I order the part last night when i saw it online, wife was in a good mood so i got 2 tandem wheel covers at the the same time. I talked to the parts lady today at the rv dealer today and she told me to just replace the vent with a standared one for around $7, was surprised she told me that, she said she would'nt pay $40 for a $4 dollar part either, even though she works there, seems there are still good people out there, oldelmer that number is for the wildcat parts department for the east coast, they won't ship to ca. but thanks for the help. and to all that replied.
