Re: Fireman Roll Call

Post by Scruffy and Tater on 9/9/2009, 3:46 am

My dad was a volunteer fireman for many years in the little Illinois town where I grew up. When there was a fire, the firemen were called on the phone. There was a "telephone tree" - one person would call two, each of those would call two more, etc. Also, a big siren on the water tower would blare. When we heard the siren, Mom or Dad would have to tell Mrs. B to get off the party line so our call could come through. Mrs. B didn't like that.

My sis-in-law was an EMT for that same fire department. Party lines were gone by then.

Highest regards to all of you present and past firefighters.

Tater

Oldelmer1, NC Firefighter 0r anyone that has been there. Is there enough room to pull in there with the TV and the 5th wheel? We might be passing by going to Amish Country in the next few weeks

Frank,
When you go in through the gate, you have to stop and talk to the Security Guard. There is a gravel parking lot behind his little trailer which is where we parked out truck at.

He did ask us if we were going to drive through or walk, we opted to walk.

I would say YES, there is room to park your rig somewhere.

Here is their website and phone number, call then and ask:

(301) 447-1000

You coming up to Lancaster?

What Oldelmer says is correct, there is room beside the guard shack to park. The last time I was there, you had to walk, for security issues, there was no driving!

Also, in the area, we stayed at the Gettysburg Campground, very close to the Academy and the battlefield.
