RV EXTENSION CORD

RV EXTENSION CORD
We have had this problem twice this year. When we park, our power cord is too short for the elecrical box, so then we have to hook up and move forward or backward...Pain in the butt to say the least. Was wondering if anyone has purchased one of these and is it worth the space in the basement? If you have purchased one...more $$ better? ebay has alot from 15 bucks to over 100. Any insite would be greatly appreceated.

Try Walmart
Walmart has 25 or 30 foot 30 amp extension cords in the RV/Automotive section. You can pick one up pretty cheap there. I have not seen much difference in quality between one of those and the expensive ones (they all seem to be made in China now ...)

Re: RV EXTENSION CORD
We use an extension cord when the 'Cat is plugged in at home. We usually can get by very well with just the original cord in the campgrounds. When we built our desk, Scruffy put in that pig-tail thing, to make more space inside the trailer.

Re: RV EXTENSION CORD
We use a 50' cord I made up when I installed the Marinco Park Power conversion kit, that way I don't have to worry about a connection that is not weather proof.

Re: RV EXTENSION CORD
As with Scruffy and Tater, we use a 25' 30A extension cord all the time when hooked up at home. CG use wouldn't be any different than home use.
We think it's definitely worth the $$ to have one in your Cat.

Re: RV EXTENSION CORD
I also converted to a Marinco plug, and purchased a 35' cord off ebay. I also have a 30' extension cord that I purchased off ebay, but have never had to use it since converting to the 35' Marinco set up. I took the standard hardwired cord that was originally on the 'Cat, purchased a Marinco plug, and made up a 12' cord for those times that the power pedestal is really close. Easier to handle than the 35' cord.

Re: RV EXTENSION CORD
I keep a 25' 30amp extension cord as well. I have needed to use it a few times and I use it with my generator to keep the genset away from the trailer.

We have a 25' 30amp extension cord too, use it often enough. Always use it when parked at home too.

Re: RV EXTENSION CORD
What cooksville said,,,,, I keep one to and have used it a couple of times.
Be sure your pulling your cord out all the way. I've pulled on mine before thinking it was at the end, and walked back over to double check and low and behold another 5' would come out , just enough to make it to the box.
I use a auto former also, that add's an extra 3 or 4' of cord also.
The camp ground I was at this weekend had the auto former working kinda hard one day. It was an older state park that was bought out by a resort.

Re: RV EXTENSION CORD
Since Scruffy installed the Marinco Conversion Kit (thanks Shooter for reminding me what it was called), we don't have the problem of pulling the cord out enough - the cord plugs into a very snug socket (Marinco) which is now in the Cat's exterior wall.
One thing that bothered me about shoving all that cord back into the trailer was that I knew there was a water pipe in the same area - I wondered if the cord could push onto the pipe and knock it loose - getting water all over the place next time we filled the fresh water tank. With the Marinco, that problem has been eliminated.
