Heat Floor Registers

Heat Floor Registers
My wife complains about dirt getting in the heat floor registers. She really doesn't want to cover them with a rug. Has anyone come up with anything to cover them?
Thanks, Tom

Re: Heat Floor Registers
I put screen material under them. Then just suck the dirt out before turning on the heater.

Re: Heat Floor Registers
I use magnetic strips (cut to size) that I bought at the hardware store. They lay flat against the vent, so there's nothing to trip over.
Let me know if you want pictures. I can run out and take a couple.

Re: Heat Floor Registers
I bought my Demco straight from the manufacturer and had it drop shipped to our local RV dealership, who took the old pin box off and put the new Demco on. If my memory serves me, I pd right around $750.00 for it.
We've had it now going on two years, and I can honestly say it has vastly improved all but the very worst chucking from pot holes and expansion joints.
There's a good used one for sale in the classified on this web site right now. You should go check it out:

Re: Heat Floor Registers
I bought "Manufactured Home" replacements at Home Depot that close. Does not stop the dirt from falling thru however but you can't see it. They are metal replacements that I take off once or twice a year (more if the kids drop something down the one in the bunkhouse area) and vaccuum them out.

Mike,
These are 4 x 8, I went out and measured mine today and they are 5.5 x 9.5. I guess they must have changed suppliers between our year campers.

Hey Tom, here is the drawing, the vents actually measure 5.25X9.25. I had to drill the holes on the ends myself, but I was OK with that.

Re: Heat Floor Registers
I cover mine. I made the covers out of the magnetic material as recommended by TC. The stuff I used was from one of those magnetic stick-to-the-door signs for cars.
I covered a piece of it with contact paper that goes nicely with my floor tiles, then cut the magnetic material to the right size. Works perfect, keeps the dirt out, just take them off when you want to run the furnace. I've had them in place for a couple of years now, no problems.

Posted some photos of the plastic registers: http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/album/180262704smXHmj?start=96
Should make it nicer in the fall time when using the heat, the metal ones get mighty hot.

Re: Heat Floor Registers
We have a couple large magnetic Texas Rangers schedules. They fit perfectly. When this season is over, we'll have two more. That's enough to cover all 4 of the registers. We bought a couple of the white covers when we lived in Tulsa. One of them is probably good as new and still in the package. The other is stuck to our freezer in the utility room. We kind of like the Rangers ones. :-)

Re: Heat Floor Registers
I know that these floor registers don't keep from collecting dirt, but that can be easily sucked out with our hand held vacuum. We had the magnetic covers first, but with 3 kids and 2 dogs they didn't stay put too long.

Re: Heat Floor Registers
It's great being retired and not having kids around. Our camping trips are very enjoyable and much different that they were when our kids were young - we love it. BUT, there are lots of times we reminisce about camping with the kids, and we miss that a lot.
We don't have to worry about the kids messing things up anymore. But, back then, sometimes the "messes" were very amusing to the four of us.... and usually, no matter how much the mess, we all usually got a good laugh out of it later.
We wouldn't really want to go back, we only have this advice to you people who still have kids at home. Enjoy them as much as you can, they'll grow up soon enough.
Oh - the magnetic covers. Even we old folks sometimes knock them loose.
