Porch Light Replacement
The bulb on my porch light went south and as I was removing the amber lens from the housing, the housing began to fall apart in my hands. Yup, you read that right, the plastic was so brittle it fell apart in my hands.
I think the cause was heat caused by the bulb over extended periods of being lit. Since we live in our Cat for 7 - 8 months of the year the porch light gets left on quite a bit (Get's dark here in the the western NC mountains).
Went down to Tom Johnson's Camping Center in Marion and got a new one to install. Did that today. About a 1 wrench out of 5 job. Only problem was getting the old unit off the side of the Cat and carefully scraping all of the caulking gunk off the side of the Cat. The new light went in easily.
Now I have to get after the ring around my road side scare light. It's beginning to rust a little.

Re: Porch Light Replacement
I replaced our porch light with one that has a switch on the bottom. That way I could leave the step light on without the porch light. Also replaced both scare lights with stainless steel ones.

Re: Porch Light Replacement
I need to swap out my scare lights as well. Mine are rusting too. The step light is sweet, wish all my other campers had them. I never even thought to add a step light to my old trailers. I'm thinking about swapping my step light out for a LED marker light for less amp draw.

Re: Porch Light Replacement
I did a google search for them and came up with this site: RV Xcessories. At the time I found them they were out of stock. I checked on it several times in the next month but they never had any stock. I sent them an e-mail and he answered that he had been in the hospital for quite a while and was slowly working back up to speed.
I did not not to wait any longer so I ordered them from Novel Distributors. Now at the time both sites had the same price. I had no problems with Novel and would use them again. Don't know how RV Xcessories is doing now, but their price is much lower.
The hardest part of the install was removing the old ones. Used a single sided razor blade to remove the caulk around the outside. There was some sticky putty underneath. I never replaced the putty, just caulked 2/3's around the outside. The hole behind the light is only 1". If you use a power drill driver to install it, be careful. The screws are easy to strip. I ended up using a screwdriver to avoid another one.
