Fort Ridgely State Park, Fairfax, MN
Nice, small campground (less than 40 sites overall, only 15 electric. Park also contains it's name sake: historic Fort Ridgely, the site of part of the war with the Dakota Sioux in 1862. Sites are large and well separated, a good number of them have undergrowth which adds to the feeling of privacy (sites numbered 29 and up). All sites have some shade, ours had a lot. We did manage to attract one humming bird to our feeders but no other birds graced our campsite. The campground is in a creek valley which feeds the Minnesota River a tributary of the Mississippi. There is also a nine hole golf course in the park.
New Ulm, MN is about 16 miles away. This is small city with a strong German heritage including Schells' Brewery.
One disadvantage is the 2 1/2 mile drive to the dump station on mostly gravel roads. There are water supplies you can fill your tank from in the campground.
We enjoyed our visit and will no doubt return.
