Skylights

Post by Skinner on 7/26/2009, 9:44 am

Was wondering if anyone has tinted their skylights Question Besides the heat coming in the kitchen and shower area we were afraid it woud start to fade the interior. Last time we were out we covered the outside with a towel and it helped considerably. Any help is appreciated.

I removed the inner trim piece, then removed the inner dome. It's just glued on and comes off easily. I then replaced the inner dome with 2 pieces of tinted plexiglass. Still lets some light in but I like it much better.

John, thanks for the reply. So you used two flat pieces for one dome or one for each?

One piece was not dark enough for me so I used two. So far I have only done the skylight in the kitchen area. wish I had taken some pics when I did it.

I took the inside part down and put heavy duty tinfoil on it and reinstalled them. Works great. I remove the tinfoil after October or about that time of the year. Maybe I will leave the tinfoil on this year.

Thanks Ole Yella but I think I want this to be a one time fix. I'm going to look into the tinted plexiglass and do both the kitchen and shower. Thanks for the suggestion.
