Changing out the OEM carpet?

Changing out the OEM carpet?
This may seem like a wild n crazy idea, but has anyone ever thought about changing out the carpet in their Cat for something else? Maybe linoleum or laminate? We had a Jayco several years ago that was linoleum all throughout and we just had scatter rugs here and there which was awesome since we have 2 hairy shelties that have coats like velcro most of the time! I've managed, only through true diligence, to keep the carpet up in our 4 year old Cat to almost new condition (its beige) but wow...do I miss all the linoleum our Jayco had years ago. So much easier to maintain. Just wondered if there was anyone out there who HAS changed out the carpet in their Cat to something else?

First...Welcome to the group! We are glad you are here.
That is some thing i am considering trying. I really would like to be able to walk in the door and go to the kitchen area without walking on carpet.
Don't know if any one here has done it, but I do remember reading that it has been done. Let us know if you do it and how it works out for you.

Re: Changing out the OEM carpet?
I found this on a Forest River forum:
http://www.forestriverforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2700
The piece that covers the edge of the vinyl on the slide looks kind of big, maybe there would be something thinner - something someone would be less likely to trip over. In person, it might actually be thinner.
Also saw something on a NuWa forum. This person just replaced the exisiting vinyl floor with vinyl planks. It looked good. He used stuff from Home Depot called Trafficmaster Allure. I think it's the same stuff the guy at the FR forum used.

I'm pretty sure there is linoleum under the carpet.
You could always pull the carpet up and keep just the lino....
They generally cover the entire floor with the lino, then carpet where they need it.

I can recall one Wildcat member who installed laminate throughout - I have to do some research though, it has been a while.

Re: Changing out the OEM carpet?
I searched through the Forest River Forum some more and found the complete set of photos and comments of the mod I mentioned above.
Here's the link:
http://www.forestriverforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1472
He made the piece that goes along the edge of the slide, that's why it looked "bulky" to me. A flooring store should have matching thresholds that go between wood or wood-grain vinyl flooring and tile - I think a strip of that stuff could be adapted for this type of application, and look better.
I hope you find something that will be appropriate for your needs. Please post photos - step by step would be great! We don't ask much, do we?

Re: Changing out the OEM carpet?
Oh my goodness! Its such a beautiful upgrade! No way would my DH attempt a job like that, but we have a close friend who does flooring for a living that we are going to show these pics to and see if he would be up to the challenge. The results are really something! Thank you SO much for the links and advice. I am definitely psyched about doing this now! If we go through with it, I will most certainly document with pics and tips along the way.
