Ceiling fan problems
Hi everyone,
We just got back from a quick overnight trip. After we set up, my wife turned the ceiling fan on and it worked for about 30 seconds then shut down. We turned the switch off and then back on. Same thing, working for about 30 seconds and shutting down. Any time I tried it after that I got the same results. When we got home I tried again, this time nothing worked at all. I took the switch out from the wall and inspected it (I have no testing tools). All the connections seemed tight and the switch looked fine. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas?
Thanks
Jim

Re: Ceiling fan problems
finally got this looked at. Turned out to be a bad fan. Now my wife has her favorite option back just in time to put the 'Cat away for the winter.

Jim,
Did you fix it, or replace it?

Your wife sounds like mine always HOT. I tell her to take another pill and she will hit me with something. She has a small fan that she runs all the time just for her.

Re: Ceiling fan problems
My fan quit working during the 4th season. It started making this squeaking sound and then one day, poof, it was gone. I disassembled the motor unit and found that brushes were worn uneavenly. I believe this to be caused by the 5* angle that the fan sits on when attached to the ceiling. I purchased a new fan ($84.00) and installed it in NC. Now that I've got the Cat home for the winter, I'm going to cut a block to level the fan out, paint it white and attach it to the ceiling and then reattach the fan. When I get this project done, I'll post some pix.

I think I married your wife's twin sister!!! She has a small fan, takes pills, and still seems to have a problem, just like the ceiling fan mentioned. Checked into replacing, WAY too expensive, and probably couldn't get a warranty with a new one (like I would with a ceiling fan) Any ideas???

Re: Ceiling fan problems
mine is out for the 3rd time in 1 yrs. time. the switch melted again, i had the draw current checked and everything is ok, i called F.R. in oregon where it was built and they are useing the same switch now as when mine was built back in 06 and said they have only a few problems reported to them about the switch, going to look for different switch before next season arrives I really don't want to put the same style switch back in . will post if i find a different one that will work

The fan and switch are a package. When I ordered my replacement fan it came as a kit fan/motor assembly, paddles and switch. The switch was the same as the one in the wall which I reused since it was not deffective.
When I operate the fan on high the switch will heat up (to much current?). All other settings, the switch stays cool. Go figger?

Re: Ceiling fan problems
I just got mine back from a 6 week stint at the service department for some minor warranty work. One item on the list was the ceiling fan not working. The technician pulled the switch out of the wall and part of the housing was melted and charred!
Not sure if its drawing too much current or poor workmanship at instalation. (loose connections or what) Just keep an eye on it (or a hand) to make sure it doesn't heat up too much, the circuit breaker didn't even trip, nor did the fuse blow......
