We're heading for Disney on Saturday July 18, then staying at WDW for 9 nights then heading back to Michigan. First trip for the kids to Disney.

Re: Leaving for WDW
Grover, looks like we might overlap a day or two. We're leaving next Saturday and checking in on the 27th for a 32 night stay. We can't wait... the whole family just loves Fort Wilderness and the kids are excited about checking out the new Meadows pool area. Did you request a loop when you made your reservation?
This will be our first trip to WDW with the new Cat, so that will be kind of cool also

Jeff I have a question I have been wanting to ask someone in Canada. How do you get so much time off in the summer?
I go to Lakewood at Myrtle Beach, SC every summer and there is alot of ppl from Canada that camp there. Most of them stay for weeks. I was just wondering if everything shuts down in Canada for the Summer!!!!!!!!!!!!I hope you enjoy WDW. We are thinking of checking it out next summer. I may need to move to Canada so I can stay for a Month...
How many miles is it from where you are to WDW? Jonathan.

Hi Jonathan,
Your post made me chuckle as I was reading it and sipping on my Tim Horton's coffee.
I've worked 21+ years for the same company in the IT business, so I get 5 weeks vacation each year and I've also carried over 5 weeks from previous years. When I work overtime, I usually take it as days off rather than being paid for it. "I'd rather be camping", as the saying goes.I think the reason that you are seeing so many people from Canada in the summer is because of our weather. The last 3 or 4 years of summer weather has been terrible. I'm in southern Ontario and this weeks forecast is calling for either rain or a "chance" of rain for the next 5 days with a high of 75 degrees. This should be the hottest weather of the summer for us. I think people just want to have some typical summer weather and to get it, we have to head to the southern states.
The trip to Fort Wilderness is 1,494 miles one way so by the end of the trip, we'll have put 3,000+ miles on the truck. The plan is to leave about midnight Friday night and stay Saturday night in Statesville, NC. Sunday night will be in New Smyrna Beach, FL and that will leave about a 1 1/2 hour drive to WDW on Monday.
If you get the opportunity to go to WDW and camp in Fort Wilderness, you won't be disappointed... it's a beautiful campground and definitely deserves its 10/10/10 Trailer Life Directory rating. Best of all, once you unhook the trailer, you can leave the truck parked for your entire stay as you are right in the middle of WDW and can use their transportation. That beats driving in and out of WDW each day!!

Re: Leaving for WDW
Well I guess that explains it. I also have been with the same company 18 yrs and get 4wks vacation. I have to save some of it for deer hunting and golfing!!! LOL
Where are you staying in Statesville, NC? I am up interstate 40 west about 45 mins in Morganton.
If you have time it would be worth a day to stay at Stone Mountain Park in Georgia on the way back. Its a cool place and you could see it in a day. I posted some pictures of my trip a few weeks ago in the trip reports. It has some Southern US History!
Have a safe trip.

Re: Leaving for WDW
I was thinking of the Statesville KOA as it looks to be right off I77... have you ever stayed there? I'll check out your trip report and pictures, but unfortunately, I don't think we'll have time to make any stops on the way back other than for overnight.

Thanks for the update Grover... look forward to seeing your pics!! Just curious, how are you getting your internet access while at FW? Are you paying the $10/24 hrs fee or do you have another method? My wife needs to be online a couple of days for work and was wondering how to accomplish this. Thanks.

I'm using my broadband card but they do have free wifi. It's hot and in the mid 90's today we are just taking a break right now getting ready to head back to the magic kingdom.

Re: Leaving for WDW
I didn't remember having to pay for wifi either,,, but we had access with a good signal.... we were in the 300 loop.
Grover did you see the lawn mower in the tree yet ?
if you were walking toward the beach at the boat dock, just before you get to the bike rack,,, theres a sidewalk that comes from the direction of the restuarant toward the beach,,,, theres a Pine tree that has a sign with a little poem or story on it,,, the top of the pine tree is cut off, but you can see a old reel mower sticking out of the trunk ....

Re: Leaving for WDW
We use our Verizon wireless broadband card wherever we go.... at home, too. The cable company where we live is pretty lousy, so all we have is the wireless broadband. We don't leave home without it.

Re: Leaving for WDW
I've seen 5 different wildcats at the campground so far but have been unable to talk to anyone either I'm at a park or they are at a park busy, busy, busy Fireworks at Epcot blew the Majic kingdom away, we timed it just right we seen the Epcot fireworks then took the monorail to the ticket, car lot, then took the ferry over to the Majic kingdom and were able to watch the fireworks there while on the ferry.
Admin, Ihaven't had a chance to find the lawnmower yet hopefully in the morning before we head to Sea world.
