Oasis in Las Vegas

Post by markmassett on 7/12/2009, 1:23 pm

Stayed there 20-23 June 2009. Second time staying there. We love this CG. Nice pool for the family. Would recommend if you go get a deluxe site. For an extra $5 or so you get grass and a little more separation from the next door neighbor. We were fortunate that the temps were only in the upper 90s.

Does Oasis have side to side hookups (back to back?). We don't like that set up, but that's what Sam's Town has, so we put up with it. At least we can get a pull-thru if we pay a little extra, and the pull-thrus are pretty far from Boulder Hwy, so that's nice.

Side to side?!?! Is that one trailer pointing one direction and the other pointing the other? If so No that is not the set up. Here's their website http://www.oasislasvegasrvresort.com/ I thought their prices were very reasonable since their "Season" is usually winter for all the snowbirds. Wed were in site 428 which looked exactly the same as premium site 429 that we were next to. Great Time here.

Yes, side to side (I have to correct myself - it's side by side) is actually back-to-back. Two trailers share one utility island that is set up to handle two set-ups.

I think we'll have to drive by Oasis - it looks nice. And it would be very convenient when we're coming from CA, which we do if we visit our son before going to LV. And when we head back home we can just head east on 215.

Thanks for the review.

Mark,

We're going to be in Las Vegas the week after Labor Day when we finish up here in NC. The DW wants to see Hoover Dam on our way to UT and the canyon lands. We've been looking at CGs in the LV area, but haven't decided on one yet. Scruffy & Taters description of Sam's Town looked interesting, but your review of the Oasis looked good too. Being south of Tropicana Blvd., what was the surrounding area like? There are some parts of LV that are not really safe, while others are.

Your comments would be appreciated. Pix too, if you have them.

Many, many thanks. yourock

Scruffy & Tater,

It's interesting that what appeals to one camper, won't to another. When KOA originally came up with the idea of side-by-side hook-ups in the early 80's, it was in resonse to feedback from campers who said that they didn't like sitting or eating under their awning and looking at the next guy's sewer hook-up. Or worse, hearing him dump it. So, they came up with the idea of diagonal side-by-side pull-troughs. Many of the older KOA CGs have this setup.

Here at Asheville East, we don't. Just the standard hook-ups at the back of the site. But we do get the occasional camper who's surprised that we don't have them. Go figger!

I guess when you look at it that way, side-by-side would be a good thing. We're more into privacy and not having someone's kids getting into "our space." Side-by-side would be great for people traveling together.

About safety. We looked at a map with the Oasis location, and we think it's in a good area. We might have driven right past it on our way to or from South Point casino one day. Nice casino, BTW. Oasis is more expensive than Sam's Town, but with permanent and semi-permanent residents, they have lots of amenities that Sam's Town lacks. If at Sam's Town, ask for a pull thru. They are a bit more expensive than the back-ins, but are located far enough away from Boulder Hwy that there isn't much traffic noise. The garbage trucks at 0-dark thirty are another matter.

Sorry if all of these ran together. Couldn't figure out how to get spaces between them. These are pictures of site 428 and the Family Pool. They also have an adults only pool next to the family pool. Store was recently remodeled and stocked very well. I think they may have slots there but I'm not sure. As far as safety Oasis is very safe. They have 24/7 security guards that check vehicle tags prior to allowing entrance. The area around the CG is fairly new. I don't want anyone to be offended but I drove thru the Sam's town CG and wouldn't stay there. Oasis is kinda upscale and call me snooty but the 45-50 a night was worth it. There is a new casino that's a little south of there (4-5 blocks) called Silverton (or something like that maybe South Point like Scruffy and Tater said). In fact one night they were having a concert that we could hear (it was En Vogue). If your going to stay Book it now!

Which Sam's Town Campground did you drive through? We've only stayed in the one on the SE side of the casino. I think it is considered better than the one on the NW side.... Sam's Town Nellis, I believe is the name... maybe we should drive through that one sometime. Neither of these campgrounds have amenities that would make them appealing to families...that's for sure.

Silverton is directly west of Oasis on the other side of I-15. There is an awesome Bass Pro Shop attached.

South Point is 4-5 blocks south of Oasis on Las Vegas Boulevard. There is another newer one farther south than that, I think it's called "M" - we didn't go there. The buffet at South Point was wonderful!
