Re: Cool looking Beach Campsite
Thanks.. It really is a great time.. That trip me and my friend Eric stayed a week. It actually is a great time.. Tend to have more fun on the beach than we do at various campsites... If you ever attempt to visit this area give me a heads up and we can join you..
Take care.. Will keep sending in new photos as we get them..

Re: Cool looking Beach Campsite
My family prefers the beach side camping at our local reservior. It's nice to be right on the water. No reservations required (nor are there hookups). You can launch the toys right at camp without heading to the boat launch. Good times for sure.

Re: Cool looking Beach Campsite
It's Lahontan Reservior near Fallon, NV
The sand is either extremely loose or compacted depending on the beach. There's miles of useable shoreline. Tow straps are needed on occasion if you get in the loose stuff.
Here's a pic from the shore.

Re: Cool looking Beach Campsite
Looks like a nice spot. We have a community park nearby that has sites right on the water - unless the reservoir is low because of lack of rain.

Re: Cool looking Beach Campsite
The second photo I posted above was taken in 2006 when the dam was dumping over the spill way (aka lake full). This year the water level is about 20 feet lower (elevation). The shore line is huge now and the trees are not near the water. We are leaving tonight for a 3 day weekend there. The 5500W Onan will work this weekend. The temps are supposed to be in the 100s.
By comparison, the first photo (June 2006) I posted, the trees in the background are the trees in the second photo (Late April 2006) that are submerged. The runoff filled the lake that year for sure. Last September, it was almost mud.
Locally, you will see "Keep Tahoe Blue" bumper stickers supporting the clarity of Lake Tahoe. I'm about 30 minutes from Tahoe. There's a guy who sells a parody sticker, Keep Lahontan Brown. As for clarity, well, it never existed. It's a silty lake (high turbidity), but great for recreation without all the restrictions of Tahoe.
