Stone Mountian Campground
Stone Mountian Campground is the number one ranked campground in the state of Georgia by Woodalls. They do have lots of activities available but some of the sites are to be desired. We stayed in L section site 291. We had plenty of room and getting in and out was easy. This was due to it being in the curve of the loop so I could easily pull ahead and back straight in. The roads around the sites are narrow and parking is limited around each site. We road thru some of the sites with only electric and power and I would not take my camper down the road to get to them it was pretty bad with big holes. The premium and full hook up sites where OK. The premium sites have decks at each site with a view of the lake on most of them. The lake is really nice but swimming is not allowed. I will try to post some pics.
Our site 291.

Premium sites.

Looking down into section "L". My camper is on the very end you can see the end of it. The road is fine but if you had to back in not alot of room to pull forward.

This is looking from my camper back up the road. Reverse from the pic above.

Another shot of the premium sites beside of us.

Overall its a good campground just some of the campsites are pretty rough to get in and out. The park is a must see. I will post some pics in the trip report.

Re: Stone Mountian Campground
I would hate to be a late arrival and have to try to back into a site with all those cars parked along the side of the narrow road.

I don't see how it ranked no1 in woodalls'. Must be the attraction that its at. I thought they we're doing some work to the roads but obviously not. I don't understand why its not as nice as WDW.
did you do the hike up the mountain ?

I understand that my tastes are not the same as everyone ele's; but based on the pictures I would not want to be in this campground unless I had no alternative (and then I would probably be griping the entire time).

The heat was on last week so no hiking for me. Anything I did involved riding. Train, duwks, tram to the top and back. The heat wasn't bad up on top it was about 10 degrees colder and the wind was blowing about 25 mph. We stayed up there awhile!!!!
Whats WDW? I am still learning the lingo!!

wdw = walt disney world..... That campground will spoil anything else you pull into..... Its awesome.
It baffles me as to why everything else is so nice and up kept,,,, and they just let the campground hang there.,,,, I know it stays full through the summer and partially used in the winter, but it should make plenty of money to do up keep on the roads.
just one of those small wonders
Did you do the ropes course in the village. I made it to the top level but it scared the pee out of mee.... just didn't feel like them little pieces of wire were gonna hold me up.....

I did the first level with my 10yr old and after that she was ready to get off so we stopped. It was alot of fun. We got there right at 10AM and where the first to get on so we didn't have to wait. 20 minutes later it was backed up all over the place.
The campground needs major road overhauls. I forgot to mention when I was pulling out the back corner of my truck bed was against the under belly of my camper. This was nerver racking. I backed up and pulled straight out as far as possible before I turned and was able to get out without any damage but it was too close for comfort.
