Heading for Yellowstone
Thursday night after work. The proper way to start a night, on the scales. Weighed in at 18,140 lbs. Spent the first night in a rest area in Cordelle, GA. Stopped in S Pittsburg, TN at Lodge outlet store. They have not so perfect cast iron very reasonabe. Picked up 10-1/2" skillet $3.95 and a dutch oven for the grill.
We decided to splurge and stay Friday night here at Jellystone park in Nashville right down the street from the Grand old Opry. Karyn took our daughter to Opry Mills shopping last night. She had a ball. Opry Mills is a mall on the property with the Opry and is really neat. Has a good tool store in it. It costs me a fortune with things that I can't live without.
We have been averaging 13 mpg. I am glad I got the Bully Dog. Tonight we hope to be somewhere around St. Louis.

Now is a great time to come out West. It sounds like you are having a great time. As others have said, keep up the pictures, so we can follow along with you. Any children or pets making the trip? 13 mpg is great. That is what we get unless we have a headwind or tailwind.

Maxtor,
We are traveling with daughter and camping dog. On I-64 outside of St Louis camping dog and daughter sleeping and they didn't even know that we were traveling 5 mph as there is construction on the road for 1 hour. Now we are moving well. Making good time even before the tie up. have more pictures to come and will put them on when we stop.

You guys stop it, I'm so jealous!
I'm almost totally tied up for the next two months with flying activities; I'd much rather go to Yellow Stone or South Dakota.

Re: Heading for Yellowstone
So far the trip has been "Super". We stopped in Metropolis so that we could see the statue of the towns favorite son.

As we crossed the river we could see the Arch. It was impressive as we went around it with the sun reflecting and glimmering off of its stainless steel skin. Spent the night in Columbia, MO. Very nice campground. Thanks for the heads up Keith, I can't wait.

Re: Heading for Yellowstone
Scruffy spent some of his growing up years in Southern Illinois. We frequently visited his grandmother until the late 90's when she died. We have never seen the Superman statue in Metropolis, although we were about 30 minutes away. Thanks for the photo. We still get up that way now and then, we should go to Metropolis sometime.

Re: Heading for Yellowstone
You posted the picture of the Superman statue in his younger years but did you even bother to take a picture of the statue of him in his retirement years? I know you drove right past that statue in Metropolis too.
Being a super hero had its perks but a pension wasn’t one of them. After retirement he had to supplement his income with a part time job at the grocery store that is just down the street from that statue you photographed. I’m sure you remember seeing it.
Here is a picture of the statue of Superman in his retirement years. Many people deny that this is Superman but notice the color scheme. The same red and blue and he apparently dyed his cape white and used it as an apron. Instead of his hands on his hips, his hands are around grocery bags. And finally, if Superman didn’t work at the grocery store, why would they spend the money to put up a statue of a bag boy?

The tribute to Superman in his retirement years in Metropolis.

Re: Heading for Yellowstone
This is where we stayed last night. Waco,NE its the first place that we have stayed that had a 4 seat full liquor bar. Very nice place and look at the view.

We then stopped in Gothenburg,NE and saw the Pony Express depot. They would go for 10 miles before they stopped and changed horses and this is one of those stops and they received $25 for the ride. Very beautiful town must see if your on I-80.

We are now staying in Sidney,NE at the Cabela's store they have a
campground here and its very nice. This is there headquarters. The store is a defendant stop with all of the animals and Bob got lost with all of the sporting stuff and the clearance section. All of us picked up winter coats for Montana and they were $7.99 in the clearance section.

Tomorrow (Tues) we will be into WY. and we are nearly two days ahead so we might go to Jackson Hole earlier then we had planned and stay a couple of days. All of the campgrounds we have stayed at are nice and reasonable prices. The weather has been nice also. A little rain but not bad. It has gotten cooler as we have been going its in the 60's here.

Richard,
That is just too funny!
Karyn and Bob,
Thanks for the photos. They're great. Keep on having fun. You got good deals on the coats. We've never been to Cabela's, although we've driven past a few. I guess we're going to have to stop sometime. Do they all have campgrounds?

Re: Heading for Yellowstone
We are spending the night in Rawlins, WY. We were going to go farther but we hit rain and hail. This picture is in between the E and W bound lanes on I-80. The placard was very interesting about how this came about. The outside temperature was 44 with a very stiff wind.

You never know what you are going to see on the interstate. We passed this and had to pull off so that the wagon could catch up. They were on the shoulder of I-80 plodding along without a care in the world.

Probably tomorrow we will go all the way to our campsite in W Yellowstone. We are two days early. There is still plenty of snow in the mountains and it is chilly. Probably not the best time to get the dog a haircut but she will make it through. (She hogs the covers at night).

Had to show you a picture of Angel (Camping Dog) she has been great.

That has to be quite a shock for Angel to go from warm/hot Florida to cold Wyoming.
Love the pics. So..... is that a "wagon train?" I guess tandem towing is allowed in Wyoming.

We woke up this morning and Angel is shivering the temp is 40. The wagon you see is one with the guy pulling another for the horse food. Here is a link that says about him. I read it and its interesting. www.leehorselogging.com We are having a great time seeing all of the sites.

This is a picture from our camper at 5:30 this morning and I hope the temp goes up.
We are now getting ready to head out to West Yellowstone. We will write when we get there and after settling in we will post more pictures.

Karyn / Bob,
Great pics. Hope you have a safe and wonderful trip. Planning on making that trip in two years when our son graduates. I see you have a similar tow / fiver set up as we do. We have a 2008 GMC 2500 crew cab with the D-Max and a 2008 RKBS (our trailer is about 600 lb. heavier ). 13 MPG is pretty darn good with that weight. I'll be extremely pleased if I get that on a trip. I see you have the Bullydog. Did you do any towing prior to installing the Bullydog. If so what did you see as far as mpg and performance increases towing and solo?

Re: Heading for Yellowstone
Your doing a great job, keep the updates coming. If you have the opportunity, visit Grand Teton NP on the south side of Yellowstone (they join). Beautiful mountains. My favorite in Yellowstone is Fountain Paint pots. It may be a little cold for swimming, but Firehole Canyon (just north of the geyser basin) is a lot of fun; you can ride the rapids down into the swimming holes. Don't jump off the cliffs; you can get fined.

That's great. I see he had to change his name. Probably quite humiliating going from the strongest man in the universe to Big John the bag boy.

We arrived at West Yellowstone this afternoon. Two days early. We covered 2510 miles without a problem. As we got in the mountains the mileage dropped to 12.5 mpg, which I can't complain about. Before the Bully Dog we were lucky to get 10.5 mpg and we were never as heavy. Will post pictures in the morning.
