I think thats the last thing they need to do. I don't mind paying a small fee for camping or parking in the parks. It keeps somebody in a job, and it pays for repairs etc.....

Re: National Parks To Offer Fee-Free Weekends!!
Phillip, here in Nebraska, the Parks and Wildlife folks have a "free" day for fishing state-wide. Ultimately, their goal is to attract more people to the parks, which they're hoping with equal more revenue.
Since the gov't is only designating what looks to be 3 weekends throughout the year, I'm leaning towards looking at it in the same light as the Parks and Wildlife people do. Throw em a bone once in awhile, get them to come to the parks. Watch them spend money while they're there. IT'S A PROFIT DEAL!!

One of the perks of being old - National Park Passport that gets us in free anytime. It doesn't pay for campsites, though.

Yes I love my "America The Beautiful" Pass too. I love the fact that it gets campsites at half price. That's one of the reasons I'm always looking for Corps of Engineer campgrounds with full hookups. I love discounts.

TC,
I agree with your view of the situation. The parks are using it as a "lost leader"! Getting people in in the hopes they will return and drop some $$ while there!
