This shows my new tail lights and clearance lights (LED) along with our camper forum ID number. On the left side you can see the electric cord conversion that we did.

Bob and Karyn,
Your decals look nice. I sort of wish we would have put the number, our names, and forum info closer together on ours.

I have to give Karyn all of the credit. It was her idea and my shoulder was hurting from waxing the trailer for the trip.

Nice. My clearance lights have arrived and the tail lights should be here today. Have to get motivated now.

Yes we drove up there last year and bought it. Even with transportation, fuel, etc. we still saved a bunch of money.

Bob,

Do your new tail lights have the clear back-up lights built in? If so, are they LED as well?

Also, did one of them come with a license plate bracket?

TC,

No, I used my exiting license bracket and I didn't get the ones with the backup lights.

I didn't know b/u lights was an option w/ the upgraded LEDs. That would be a home run, brighter tail/stop lights plus you could run wire to have b/u lights! That would be cool!!!

Mark,
Do you think back-up lights on the tail lights would help? I would think some white LED's under the trailer lighting up the sides and wheel area would work better. I've never hooked to a trailer with back-up lights before. I wouldn't think they'd help much seeing as you can't see directly behind the trailer day or night. I could see it helping a guide person though. I could be blowing smoke since I'm a virgin to tail light back-up lights! lol

I've been turning both my "scare" lights on when I back at night. It allows me to see what is on the sides of the trailer but doesn't help much with showing the ground and the wheels, which I use to guide the trailer into the site. I've been thinking about adding white LED's under the trailer to light up the ground and wheels, but I don't back into sites very often in the dark to justify the work and cost.

If you do add them, please let us know how they work out.

Bob,
Looks good! The reflective tape looks cool and appears factory. LED's are the way to go and I'm very surprised the RV industry is lagging so badly with LED lighting! The truck industry converted long ago and even the auto industry is going LED.

Re: New lights and numbers

Post by MaxRock on 6/9/2009, 1:51 am

Earl,

Good point on the b/u lights not being bright enough. On my old TT, it had b/u lights, they helped some but were not really bright enough.

My problem is my truck b/u lights blind me from the reflection off of the Cat's white surface. I thought about adding 2 pair of driving lights to the Cat for b/u lights, 1 pair in front of the front axle and the second pair under the rear. I would like the ability to turn off the truck's b/u lights at the same time. So many mods...so little time!

I would too, but I just can't get myself to hack into my trucks wiring to add a switch.

Earl,

I agree with your comment on hacking the TV's wiring. I've thought about either taking the bulbs out or putting something in front of the b/u lights to block the light (you know...duct tape or something). Laughing

I put 55W lights on mine. One on each end of the rear bumper and one under each site, forward of the trailer axles (so I can see what the trailer wheels are doing). They all come on with the truck back up lights or with a switch.

Scott,

That is the same idea that i have. How hard is it to route the wire for the b/u lights? I assume you can pick it up in the junction box located in the pin box. How do you route it from there to the under carriage?

Thanks...

There is already a wire going from the truck connector to the junction box. The hardest part was running a wire from the junction box to the compartment near the water pump. That is where I put the relay and manual switch. Running the wire under the trailer to the lights was pretty easy; just unscrew and pull the cover down in a few places.
