Thanks

You rotate the clock to remove it from the mount. If I remember correctly, you rotate it counter-clockwise. Once you get it off the mount, you can adjust it like a normal battery operated clock.

It may also have some velcro on the back of it to prevent it from rotating off the screws in travel. So it might sound as if you are ripping something apart when you try and remove it. Even with the velcro and screws holding it up, mine fell off and landed right on the heat vent in the kitchen and broke the vent cover. Thats how I know there is velcro back there on mine. Now we just remove it when travelling. Just another thing on our prep list for travel.

No screws or velcro on my clock, which is factory installed. My clock has a base/mount screwed to the slideout and the clock rotates and locks into this mount so it can't fall off. The clock doesn't hang from a screw like a normal house clock.

Re: How to adjust RV clock

Post by Scruffy and Tater on 5/31/2009, 12:47 pm

Our clock is easy to take down, set the time, and replace the batteries. Scruffy has a lot of experience. The clock keeps quitting. Scruffy has checked to be sure the battery is tight, and it is.

Somewhere I saw where someone replaced the round factory clock with an oblong digital clock with remote temperature sensor. It wasn't as neat looking as the round clock, but it definitely didn't look bad. I've looked at those clocks at Walmart, and keep thinking it would be nice to have one. Don't know where we would put the outside sensor where it won't fall off. It would have to be permanent, as neither of us would remember to take it inside every time we moved. I can't remember what that person did with the sensor.

On our first clock, the second hand would hang. Took a while to see what was happening. Forest River gave us a new one and it has worked well.

Mine also keeps quitting. I'm going to see if I can find new guts at Hobby Lobby.

A couple of months after buying our 2008 RKBS we took a long trip through the Southwest. The clock stopped working in Utah and I thought the batteries were dead. After replacing the batteries the clock still didn't work so I put that on our list of items for the dealer to address under our warranty. I didn’t have to take it to the dealer though because three days later in New Mexico the clock suddenly started working again and it hasn’t missed a tick-tock since then.

Scott,
Scruffy was saying he'd like to replace the clock mechanism. That shouldn't be hard to do. We have to go up to Hobby Lobby anyway - I'm having HL withdrawals.

The clock mechanism has and will be a source of frustration, as it will work for a while and then slow down or quit altogether. Our solution was to replace the mechanism with a quality one. Any good clock shop can do it, and ours was around $20.

Our '04 clock keeps great time and we have not had any issues at all. Just the occasional dead battery, besides that, it runs like...well..a clock!

As the economy gets worse, manufacturers will continue to take short cuts and be more willing to take the lowest bids on parts. Standards were probably higher in 2004, and products might have been better made.

I struck out at Hobby Lobby. They had clock mechanisms for $6, but the shortest shaft was too long to fit the cat's clock. Still looking.

Ours has worked like a champ, just replace the battery every spring, leave it on DST. Use the oven clock for local time when we set up at camp.
