Slide

Post by Scruffy and Tater on 5/29/2009, 10:15 am

A few days ago we pulled into the Holbrook, AZ KOA. When we put out the slides, the living room slide didn't go all the way out. We could see daylight coming in between the trailer and the slide. Scruffy made some adjustments to the slide mechanism and that helped somewhat. The next day, when we put the slide out, it was much tighter. Anyone else have this problem? Scruffy wants to be sure it is fixed correctly before we go out again.

Mine did that, a gap at the bottom left, as your looking at the slide from the inside.

I loosened the bolts on the slide out arm and pushed the slide out further, this closed the gap at the bottom.

The top was fine before I started, and after I moved the bottom.

Our gap was at the top left... the top right might have been a little off, but not much. Bottom fitted tightly on both ends. Adjusting the bolts seems to have fixed the problem. Scruffy will look at it again and make more adjustments if necessary.

The top left is where we had a gap after the dealer we purchased our trailer from did an adjustment. We took our trailer to another dealer and they went over all the adjustments. So far the gap at the upper left corner(looking from the inside) is much better. Our adjusting nuts are tight , inside and out side of the " L " bracket. I ran this by Rod Batts and he said to see how this works. In the beginning my adjusting nuts had about a 1" gap at the " L " bracket. The final adjustments were done at a dealer that claims the mechanic is certified in this adjustment and they do adjustments on lots of RV's. The mechanic that did our adjustment also teaches classes on this adjustment. So far it looks good. Good luck!! Laughing

So far, so good, with the adjustments Scruffy made. This is definitely something we're going to keep a close eye on. Glad you got your slide problem resolved, Duke.

Do you have play between the " L " bracket and the lock nuts on the actuator arm?

I hope I got this right. Scruffy says, "Yes, we have play." He didn't make any adjustments on the actuator arm. All of the adjustments were made on the vertical adjustment screws.

I want to mention that for a couple days our slide made a horrible noise when we put it out or in. After he made the adjustments, the slide seemed to move faster and smoother, with no noise.

Tater,

That is odd how it came out of adjustment like that. I wonder what caused the issue?

Could be...with the coast-to-coast trip y'all took, I'm sure the Cat got shook up pretty bad!

Glad the trip(s) went well!

Well, now mine is messing up. It is pulling too far in on the upper front side. It actually pulled the bolts out of the slide awning bracket because it pulled in so far. It also pulled out the screws that hold the dinette booth to the slide wall. Anybody have an idea of what I need to adjust?? Thanks

Brad,

Wow! That sounds like a major mess.

I posted some manuals for the Lippert slides. They help Scruffy with our problem. Even though yours sounds much worse, maybe you can find a solution.

It's at the top of this list in "Stickies"

Re: Slide

Post by moo2613 on 6/4/2009, 3:37 am

After reading the manual (Thanks Tater) and talking to the technician at the dealer, I adjusted my slide. Actually, it is a very simple process. I ended up lowering the outside edge by an inch on the rear and an inch and a quarter on the front. Now the top is not pulling inside the camper. I have a little jerky action when I bring it in, very slight, but that means that something else needs a little adjusting.

We are headed out tonight for 2 weeks, so I want to get some miles on it and check it after that. I have no idea what changed so that it needed that much adjustment, but I started noticing over a year ago that the slide was pulling in further on top than it used to.

Brad,

Good luck with the slide. I hope your trip is uneventful from a Cat point of view.

I hope y'all have a great time and keep us posted!

Brad,
I'm glad I could be of help with the manuals. Scruffy was able to find our solution pretty easily once I found a manual for him to look at.

Is your slide awning bracket okay? And the dinette?

After many uses, I still think something is not adjusted right, but everything worked just fine. The awning bracket is just fine as is the dinette. I would like to re-attach the dinette, just because I know the screws are stripped out, but I can't even budge the thing, so I guess it is fine. I am getting a metal on metal sound just as the slide comes all the way in. I just haven't figured out why yet.

What manuel tells you how to adjust the slide and what to look for? I have found none so far. None that is very detailed. Remember I is Portagie. I need detailed instructions and PICTURES. LMBO

Re: Slide

Post by MountainMan on 4/9/2010, 10:34 am

Our new Cat is not sealing in the out position on the bottom left of the main slide. Its wide enough to put your fingers through the opening!

I read through the Lippert manuals posted above and the adjustment looks very straight-forward and easy. I think my passive side needs to be adjusted out as well as slightly upward so the top of the slide doesn't hit first.

My only hold-up from doing it myself is possible voiding the warranty. Then again I hate taking the time to pull it to the dealer then go back and get it.
