Cracked glass.

Cracked glass.
Just noticed a small crack in one of my side windows. It starts from the corner and goes about an inch. Does anyone think that it would be covered under warranty? It's not from a rock chip or anything like that. I think it is just a stress crack.
Bad part is I would have to have it retinted for sure out of my pocket but that should be minimal.

Re: Cracked glass.
It might be covered. It doesn't cost anything to ask. Good luck.

Re: Cracked glass.
my buddies large window on the side cracked and forest river was going to cover it and replace the whole window under his extended warranty. He ended up having a piece of polycarbonate (?? clear plastic) put in instead at a local window place for about $70.

Re: Cracked glass.
I still haven't done anything with mine. The crack is larger now, almost half way across the window. When I get done work camping then I'll probably just take it by a glass shop and have it replaced. I can't imagine the whole thing, including re tinting, would be over $100.00.
Worst part is taking the Cat to the glass shop then taking it to the tint shop. I'll loose more money in gas and my time than what the window will cost.

Re: Cracked glass.
Big Dave,
I would think you could peal off the tint before you get the window replaced. When you peal it off, lay it on a big piece of paper, and then roll it up for safe keeping.
Me and DW tinted our own windows, its not hard to put it back on. Worst part was trying to cut the film, your already past that.
Once the window is replaced, just clean the glass real good, then spray window cleaner all over the glass. Put the tint back on, position it where it needs to be, then use a small squeegee and squeeze the glass cleaner out. Do it gently so you don't move the film from its position.
Not hard to do at all since you already have it cut to size.

see if you can trace the old piece of glass once they take it out, that might be easier possibly tint the new one before they install it.

Re: Cracked glass.
When we bought the trailer none of the windows were tinted. I took it to a professional shop and had it done. Cost about $450.00 which I thought was cheap for all the little pieces he had to do.
I don't think the old tint will come off without tearing it. I think I can get it retinted for about $30.00 and I don't think the glass will run more than $50.00 installed. I've got a friend who has a glass shop and I think he'll cut me a deal.
It's just all the running around and time that bugs me more than anything.

I lost the emergency window in the bedroom a couple years back. My neighbor's a glass guy and replaced it for nothing with some scrap glass he had.

Big Dave,
If you look real closely in a corner, you should see where the film ends. If you can get underneath it, maybe with a very small blade screw driver or something, it should just peal right off. Be careful and go very slowly. Maybe even spray some window cleaner between the glass and the film as you pull.
Heck, nothing to lose by trying.....

Re: Cracked glass.
My 2009 28RKBS had the back slide window fail in the same spot, only the whole window went. It was just three weeks old, and only had 50 miles on it. Neither the dealer, or FR would stand behind the product. Cost us $428 to get it fixed.

Re: Cracked glass.
Original Post: My horizontal sliding kitchen window leaks a bunch when the rain is blowing into/onto it. The water seems to be coming in through the latch area. It happened during hurricane Fay and I didn't think to much about it because it was just bad weather. However, last week we had a bad blowing storm with lots of rain that came down sometimes from all directions seemed like. I cannot see any fault or discrepancy about the window.. It is shut and latched properly. It looks like it was properly installed. I can not figure out why. Has anyone had the same problem? Would like to hear from you if this has happened to you and what was your fix. The 5er sits outside all the time.
UPDATE: Took the 5er to Camping World before the warranty ran out, (this was last year). They said the window was bold-ed and replaced it under warranty. Not a problem with it since then. They said it was not unusual for that to happen. Thank goodness it was covered by the one year warranty from FR.
