Not All Tuners are Equal

Post by Richard Mondavi on 5/15/2009, 2:27 pm

Much to my dismay, I discovered this week that not all digital TV tuners are equal. We just returned from a week at the South Sandusky campground at Rend Lake in IL. It’s a fringe reception area for most television stations. My little 15 inch Polaroid TV in the bedroom picked and held more digital stations than the 26 inch Olevia TV we have in the entertainment center. Considering what I paid for the Olevia two years ago, that kinda ticks me off.

Long ago I found a site, unfortunately I didn't bookmark it, which had
a very active forum on all the various converter boxes. They had
a thread, something along the line of "which box is the best and why",
and one of the things talked about was the sensitivity of the
converter. I followed that until I made a decision to buy a
couple of Zenith ones from RS. Had to convince the guy to go get
some from the stockroom for me, they had a problem with the "A" version
of that model and were returning all of the converters to Zenith.
What he had in the back was the "B" model of it which was just fine and
had better sensitivity said many. We'll see, the RV is still in
storage and only half of the local stations have a digital transmission
running now.
