Rope Light question

Post by RichGeorge on 5/14/2009, 5:07 pm

We've decided our awning lights have seen better days, and are trying an awning rope light strip (from CW). It has holders that slide in the groove of the awning. I'm wondering if its OK to leave the rope light attached to the awning when rolling the awning up? Instructions didn't say anything either way.

The groove runs the length of the awning, on the underside. Here's a picture I "borrowed" from CW.

I that case, I think it would be ok to roll up with the lights in place, you are not really rolling the lights. The rope light (at least the ones I have in my utility body) are flexible, but not flexible enough to roll.

I take my rope lighting out. You have to keep in mind the cord and how will it roll up into the awning. Unless you take it off the end of the rope lighting it will just get tangled up.

It is a pain to take it off every time I roll up the awning for a storm or high winds but I have nothing better to do.

I don't think I would roll anything up in the awning. After repeated closings you run the risk of poking a fatigue hole in the awning fabric. Just my opinion.

Rich,

We use the rope lights as well and attach to the awning using these hangers http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/hanger-awns/8014 . My concern would be the small "S" hooks that are part of the hangers. These "S" hooks may over time tear the awning. At least that is my fear. So I take down the rope lights and hangers each time I break camp. I now one of these times I'm going to get caught with my awning out and a storm is going to hit. Not sure what I'm going to do then!
