Convertor failure

Post by Davej on 5/11/2009, 3:37 pm

Purchased 2008 28RKBS new in May of 2007. Currently the third Parallax #7100 convertor has went south. Only made 1 weekend on this one, used a battery charger to save the weekend. Have read many post concerning checking convertor and this is what we have done so far. Checked all circuits for shorts, checked all electrical connections. Had the battery checked by Auto parts supplier, no failure there, using same battery that came with camper. Have a disconnect switch and had used it when last convertor was installed and convertor was carrying the load. We do turn the lights, radio, and whatever else that uses DC on when we make camp. I believe if it is there to use, then we are going to use it. I changed out the last convertor and even change the circuit board out that time. Have the installation down to 20 to 30 minutes.

Have major trip to the Dakota's in June. Could use any info as to replacement convertor to install, or what else to look for. Have contacted our dealer, our extended warranty is to expire 5/20, but hestitate to put another Parallax convertor in.

Thanks

After my second parallax converter went out, Forest River replaced mine with a WFCO 9855 three stage converter. I have had it for a year now, and so far so good.

Hope it is still working ok as we leave Thursday for a couple of weeks. Guess I need to go out and check.

Hopefully Forest River will get you something better. Good luck

Welcome to the forum Davej.

We had the WFCO 8955 (3-stage) which worked great, but the fan was a little too noisy for my taste and a I replaced it with the Intelli Power 9160 with charge wizard.

I too have a Parallax7355 that has died. It kept blowing the breaker in the garage every time I would plug it in. I could turn on all of the breakers in the Parallax except the one connected to the converter, so this isolated the converter. I then disconnected the output of the converter, still tripped the breaker. The only thing I can come up with is that there is a short in the converter. I ordered an Intellipower PD4655 by Progressive Dynamics. Ordered from Bestconverter.com. The unit is supposed to be a direct replacement for the Parallax and has a built in Charge Wizard. This is a full 4-stage battery charger. The parallax is only a single stage, battery killer. FedEx says it should be here Friday. I'll post back with results. The other deciding factor is that this unit Made in the U.S.A. and the company is based in Marshall, MI.
