TV options

Post by moo2613 on Mon May 11, 2009 5:33 am

Well, it looks like we are finally going to go ahead and put a tv in the cat. We are looking for one that we can use in both the bedroom and the living room. Most of the use will probably be in the bedroom. We are looking for a LCD with a built in DVD player so we can watch movies while in bed if we can't find anything worth watching. I was thinking around 22", I would like to go larger for the living room viewing, but I am not sure how much weight the tv shelf in the bedroom will hold. Here is my main problem. All of the tv's I am looking at only have digital optical sound output, no rca jacks. While watching in the living room, I would like to be able to use the surround sound, any suggestions? Actually, I never really paid much attention to the topics on hooking up a tv since we didn't have one, so if somebody could give me a refresher on the jumper cable and such I would appreciate it. Any suggestions on brand of tv?

Brad,

Better measure for the bedroom, if your like our 29RLBS, its only 15 inches wide.

I think only the Polaroid 15 inch will fit, and they are really hard to find.

We currently have a 13 inch CRT in there, and I can see where its putting pressure on the shelf supports. But I don't take it out when traveling, but now I'm starting too.

Back in the olden days of glass picture tubes we bought 2 TV's for the
RV. The one up in the bedroom is a tiny 13" model. The one
down in the LR is a 27 or 29 or
somethingthatweighs87tonsandgavemeahernia". No actually the box
clearly stated the shipping weight was 105lbs and it clears the
sides/top of the enclosure by at least 1/4". The LCD we bought
recently for the house, a 37" model, feels like it weighs about 30lbs.

In the Wildcat RV I have an external DVD player on both TV's. I
also have 2 HD converters that I will be testing later this month so I
can tell how well they work. After testing I'll take them both,
along with the FW and it's accoutrements, down to be parked for the
summer. If they work then swell, otherwise we'll just watch
DVD's. If they don't work they'll be permanently moved down to AZ
in the fall to the new, used, RV that's down there. We'll also
take our satellite receivers/DVD's. We just bought that so I'm
not sure what's there and how it's cabled.

All the TV's/DVD/converters I have will handle coax and audio/video
cabling. I feed the audio from everything, except the bedroom,
into the AUX input of the stereo unit by using a autoswitching device.
