Idea to protect your microwave glass plate
Hello all,
I happen to have a spare vent plug that I got from Camping World and happen to notice it would fit into my microwave just right to protect the glass turntable from bouncing up and such. My microwave is at the rear of the trailer so I had been taking the glass plate out and storing it in the foam that it came in and than storing the foam in the pantry. I heard of some people cutting down Pringle Potato Chip tubes to keep the plate down. Seems to work good. I have included pics as well. Please be sure that your door latches correctly if you plan to use this method. I have to push in on the vent plug a couple times to get the door to shut and latch tightly.
I hope I posted this in the correct area. I thought maybe under general, but I put it here.
Earl

We cut a couple of cardboard tubes from rolls of paper towels to size. We wedge them between the plate and the top of the microwave.

Oh, my! We bought a show model, and there wasn't anything in the microwave to secure the plate. So..... it's just been bouncing around. I guess I better make something to secure it. Cardboard tubes seem like a good idea for the time being. Not much time left before we leave.

We have a rubber mat in the sink. Before we leave I put the plate in the sink on top of the mat. As long as I remember to that I should be OK.

I've never thought about it, but you know it probably does take a good beating on rough roads. Thats why this forum is so good, just when you think you covered all the bases, somebody brings up something else to worry about. I would think the rear kitchen takes it harder than the rear lounge though.

In the 29BHBP, the kitchen is in the middle of the Cat, which I would think would offer the smoothest ride. I have not noticed the glass dish being out of alignment when we use the micro for the first time after making camp. But now that you brought up the issue, I'm sure mine will break on the next trip if I don't secure it in some manner.
Thanks for a heads up on this one!

I agree, Mark. If we don't secure the plate before we start to travel on Monday, it will be broken by Tuesday.

I've always used the microwave for bread storage. It's never been out of the key at the base.

We store our bread in the lower oven. We use the microwave a lot more than the conventional oven, and would be removing the bread two to three times a day.

Me either, but sounds like a good place to store the vent covers.
