Water Filter Housing Leak

Post by cummin@you on 4/28/2009, 10:25 am

Well today I decided to sanitize the water system to get it ready for this weekends trip. So after pressurizing the system I noticed water leaking from inside my basement. I opened the door and water was leaking from the where the canister screws up into housing. I looked and see no seal between the two. So a couple questions, 1st is there supposed to be a seal that I may have miss placed during the winter? 2nd does the filter need to be installed in order to get a seal?

There should be a rubber gasket in the top of the water filter. I almost lost one a couple of years ago when I dumped out the antifreeze. If you don't have one I'm sure you can order one from your Wildcat dealer.
I no longer use a water filter.

Thanks Richard. I guess I will be going with a by pass until I get the gasket.

I broke the clear plastic canister over the winter. I purchased a similar filter head and canister from Lowe's for around $20. I just used the new canister and screwed it to the existing head. It works great and now I have a spare head.

This can always be a back-up plan in case you have problems getting an o-ring.

It is a big o-ring. Mine falls out every time I change the filter.

As soon as mine started leaking I spotted the O ring on the lawn.

lol! yup same here I dumped the pink stuff out and then screwed it back in and it started leaking. When i found the o ring i tried putting it on the male end but i found out later it actually goes in the plastic canister about 2" down in just below the threading in its own little rut.
