Rod Batts at Forest River
We bought our WC 2009 Toy Hauler in Grand Rapids, MI and have had a few problems with it. Mainly, the ramp door of the garage leaked like a sieve and we had a river running thru our garage. After going to Camping World in Woodstock GA and getting the runaround, we continued our trip and made an appointment with Camping World out side of Tallahassee. Both service managers had been in contact with Rod Batts and no one could come up with a fix. The manager at Tallahassee told us out right because we didn't buy the camper from them they didn't want to touch it (this, after sitting there all day). After many calls back and forth with Rod Batts he asked if we could come to Elkhart IN to have it fixed at the factory. It seemed like our only chance of getting things straightened out before we headed to Yellowstone for the summer.
Rod was wonderful and bent over backwards to accommodate us including putting us in a Ramada for 2 nights. Everything on our list got fixed (so we thought) and we headed for Denver. The factory did squirt water from a hose on the replacement door and it was not leaking when we left. We ran into rain and our ramp door still leaks (not as bad). This time, we think the water is being driven in at highway speeds on the front edge of the door. So, when we get settled we'll try some weather stripping and maybe a drip edge and hopefully, this will stop it.
If anyone else out there has a Toy Hauler with the door on the side (not the back) please let me know if it leaks.
I would recommend talking with Rod Batts about any problems that can't be fixed by a dealer. He is difficult to get in touch with- you must be persistent (but nice).

His name continues over the years to come up as a concerned, helpful employee of WC. We are blessed he is there.

My experience with Rod over the 3+ years that I have dealt with him on various issues has been great. I'm glad he's out there as well.

Re: Rod Batts at Forest River
rod batts told me my slideout would no longer let water in when traveling in the rain.
we're going to find out soon because i'm leaving to go south in the morning and they're talking storms all week.
if this thing leaks again (3rd trip with this camper) after the dealer failed to fix it, and then rods boys did down in elkhart, this baby is going down the road...... i don't deal well with things that cause me grief. lol

I spoke with Rod last week after waking up and finding water covering the floor of our new trailer. He was a pleasure to deal with and has already scheduled a driver to come get our trailer and take it back to the factory. I hope they can fix the problem and repair the damaged molding to our satisfaction. Good luck and have a safe trip.

They forgot to remove part of the plastic backing on the adhesive side of the seal before installing the slide room. Rod knew exactly what the problem was when the dealership technician explained to him where the the water was coming in from. The other problem we had was rain would enter the trailer through the city water connection. I know this sounds crazy but, my brother actually found the problem when we were camping in the rain last week. Rain was coming into the basement storage and running under the wall into the living area. Rod said they would open the wall up and explore for any damage, fix any they found and return it as new.

Re: Rod Batts at Forest River
I've had a good relationship with Rod since I bought my Trailer last October 2008. I email him and he normally emails me back the same day. I had trouble with my dealer and Mastercraft and wouldnt you know, Mastercraft called me about an hour after I emailed Rod. lol If only the guys on the line were as good as Rod. I believe we'd all be bad off if Rod were to leave FR. So I give Rod my full respect and

Re: Rod Batts at Forest River
We have had some trailer issues that our dealer could not resolve. We contacted Rod Batts and he was very helpful in helping us get our issues resloved. It's sad that you have to resort to that. I would think dealers would appreciate your business and work very hard to fix your trailer issues. They just don't appreciate your business! It's crazy! We purchased our trailer locally because we thought it would be nice, "IF" we needed service, or wanted to get routine maitenance done. The deal was OK ,nothing great but the srevice was bad! I had to take the trailer back two and three times to get the same thing fixed. It just doesn't make sense. Anyhow we do appreciate Rod Batts ! and were very surprised that Rod and Forest River helped us like they did. I doubt that other manufactures would go to that extent. Very pleased! Now I hope the trailer, CAT holds up and we don't need to get anything else fixed. Like I told Rod, not being smart or anything, but we have had two new Jayco trailers and have never taken either one back for warranty work. I don't know if it would be the same today if we purchased a Jayco. This was in 1986 and 1996 we bought the Jayco trailers. Again Rod and Forest River are doing the right thing!! I hope they continue to help us in need!

Rod has been very helpful on every occasion even if he needed a little push now and then.

Re: Rod Batts at Forest River
Last June we were traveling in Illinois when our converter went out for the 2nd time. Called the dealer and he said he would send us to the factory since we were headed that direction. Got to meet Rod, and was very impressed. We were a work-in but they replaced the converter, replaced the Concertone, did some minor repairs to the floor and window screen, and made an adjustment to the slide. We came back about 4 hours later and everything was fixed. I also was able to visit with some other employees regarding some structural diagrams and posibilities for modifications. They had some units there that they were essentially rebuilding, that was impressive. On returning home, I had a couple of minor issues that were going to take some time to track out and an issue with a light fixture, etc. Called Rod and we arranged for a local certified repairman to work on the unit so we didn't have to travel to the dealer. All has been good. Getting ready to head out this weekend for a shake down and see how it works.
