Double towing??
Anyone towing a boat behind thier Wildcat? I plan on towing our Alumicraft Boat with 40 hp Jet outboard this year, estimating it to be a total of around 60ft,,,
I bought a wired rearview camera just to make sure the boat stays where its supposed to...I'm also getting a Reese hitch installed.

Re: Double towing??
I do it all the time.......I'm 65ft tip to tail. You are going to be more than 60' with a 32qbbs, any tow vehicle and a boat. I'm 51' just with the truck and WC. My little jetski trailer is 14' long.

Re: Double towing??
Oh, with the large overhang on the back of the 'Cat, you don't have to worry about the tag trailer too much. If the tandems on the trailer clear, the tag will make it too. You should do a few tests to verify how it follows.
Also check with your local DMV on the combination towing and permitted lengths. The online towing pages say 65' is the longest in MO.
Here's how I installed my rear hitch..

Re: Double towing??
Thanks JetSkier,, Nice rig! As for the length, I was doing the math in my head...so I'm thinking your right,,,on your hitch I assume the back of the hitch is tied into the frame of the trailer ?. Your tongue weight isn't too much with your WC . How much weight do you think the bumper is taking on? Just curious
Thanks for the reply, Have fun...

Re: Double towing??
I have a lot of pinweight from the 500# generator, my 4 GC batteries and a full basement. The tongue weight is around 200#. It doesn't seem to affect the ride too much. It is noticably, don't get me wrong. You will get a little forward/aft chucking with the tag trailer in-tow.

Re: Double towing??
We tow double about 50 percent of the time with our 32QBBS. No problems yet, knock on wood. Just check your own state regs and take your time. South Dakota has some of the most liberal laws at 75' and I am knocking right on that door. Here are a couple pics of my set up. As you may see from the hitch pictures, the shop did a nice job welding it to the frame securely. Good luck.

Thanks! Nice Rig,, I only hope we never park next to each other,,, it looks exactly like our setup! May be some confusion..I was actually debating on installing the hitch myself, but I have a Reese dealer who will do it for $450..I'm a moderate welder...leave it to the experts, Have fun

Re: Double towing??
Nevada has recreational (non-commercial) combinations on a regular class "C". They also have one for towing over 10,000#. I have them both. It is the same test more or less.

Re: Double towing??
We double tow all winter, in CA it rquires a commercial class A license with a doubles/triples endorsement. Pulls great up and over the mountain to get to the desert.....biggest concern is stopping, need to allow plenty of room!

Just called our friends at the Missouri DMV and they informed me as long as we are recreational we "Don't need no stinkin endorcements" ironically its the commercial drivers that need certification...go figure...

Re: Double towing??
Here's the list of states where double towing is allowed. It's from the TL Directory. All the rest of the states it's illegal. In the directory it's listed as triple towing; TV + 2 towed trailers = 3 vehicles, or triple towing.
AZ, AR, CO, DC, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, MI, MN, MS, MO, NE, NV, NM, ND, OH, OK, SD, TN, UT, WI.
In AZ, IL, MI and MN it is only allowed with a 5th wheel.
Note that not one eastern state is listed. Also, there are no west coast states (CA, OR, WA). So, ya can't take your boat to the ocean when your triple hitched.

Re: Double towing??
Mike,
I'm pretty sure Texas will allow double towing. I will have to investigate it a bit further. I know I looked it up before and thought it was legal.

It's permitted in CA if you have a 5th wheel, limited to 65ft overall. I do it all the time.
OR is a no no. People do it though. I can't remember WA. I think they follow OR.

Brad,
Ware Missouri is a bend in the road, around 50 miles south of St Louis, nearest towns would be DeSoto or Hillsboro

Re: Double towing??
Pennsylvania is not on that list, but you are aloud to tow 2 trailers as long as it is no more than 65 feet and front trailer is a 5th wheel, also you have to have a "Class A" C.D.L. with doubles / tripples endorsement. Also Md., N.C.,S.C., it is legal according to the State Police. Also under U.S. DOT If you have a CDL endorsement as long as you are on the interstate system, and up to 5 miles off unless posted. I've been pulling this set up for 3 years now. Before I started doing this I made a lot of phone calls and a lot of research. That list needs updated.
