Water tank vent tube

Water tank vent tube
I read where OldElmer and Shooter moved their fresh water tank vent tube. I've got my trailer out of storage this weekend to do some work on it. I'm in the middle of washing and waxing right now and it's already over 80 here, so I need a breather. Anyway to continue my question, where do I get access to the top of the tank? It looks like from the pictures that you can take off the wall in the rear compartment where the power cord goes in to get access to the top of the fresh water tank. Or do I need to take the bottom panels off?
I've got the 29BHBP, so I've got pass through storage in the rear and there's a box built in there for where shore power cord and fresh water fill tank tube is.

Mark,
If you take the little box off in hte corner, you can see the fill tube going down through the floor, and the electric wire too.
I think Shooter said he just opened the underbelly by removing a few screws and could see the hoses going into the tank.
I didn't do mine, we rarely fill the fresh tank up, so I didn't do ours.

Re: Water tank vent tube
Won't have time to finish this project this weekend. I'll have to add it to my list for the next time. There's a bit more to do than I anticipated. I'll have to get a piece of tubing and some clamps and a way to clear the screen of silicone. All while trying not to break those wires that let you know how much water is in the tank. I'm hoping that I'll be able to keep more water when I go to Glamis when I'm done. Going up and down the mountain, I think that I'm spilling at least five to 10 gallons. Last time we went, I ran out of water the second day and the three of us only took one shower and they were quickies.

Hi Mark,
So how did you get to the top of the tank?
Now that I look at your picture again, looks like the hoses go into the side of the tank at the top, is this correct?

Yep, this is all at the side of the tank. I just took out some of the self tapping bolts that ran along the side and just peeked through the bottom cover. Can't figure out how they secured the rear of the cover. It looks like it was wrapped over the end of the frame before they bolted down the sub floor.

Mark, all you need is to buy a 5' hose, 2 hose clamps and a can of expanda-foam. I took 3 or 4 screws off the underbelly and had straight access to the side of the tank. The vent line is just pushed over a 90° fitting on the side of the tank (no hose clamp !?). After opening the little compartment where the electrical cord is, I removed some of the expansion foam and there is a big hole going through the floor where the filler hose goes through. I pushed the new hose through the floor, connected to the tank's elbow (with hose clamp), cut to desired length and connected to the filler flange with the 2nd hose clamp (this is a little hard due to the limited access), put on a new screen and filled the hole inside the compartment with the foam, tested the hook up and all was well.

Do they sell replacements, or did you just fab your own?

Re: Water tank vent tube
I just did mine yesterday. Routing the new vent hose was a pain. The new hose needs to be 5' long. When I pulled the old vent screen out, I found that it was a small rubber ring with the screen attached to it. I carefully removed the silicon clogged screen from the rubber ring, cut a new piece of screen from an old faucet aerator, put silicon around the edge of the new screen, put it on the rubber ring, and pushed the whole thing into the vent hole. Looks good, just like the original, only time will tell if it will stay.

I used some industrial type super glue from Loctite and I am pretty confident it will not come out.

Re: Water tank vent tube
I'm gonna do this to mine too some day. Probably the same day I fix the issue with the sagging tank. I'll probably never use the fresh water tank but it irritates me when something isn't done right in the first place.
