Just thought I would post these pictures, it shows the wiring for replacing your old thermostat.

Re: Hunter Digital Thermostat
Do you have a picture of the outside or a model number? You got it from Home Depot, right?

Re: Hunter Digital Thermostat
Dennis,
I got mine from Home Depot, its a Hunter model # 44110. Its a little big and sticks out on the side just a little bit. If I had to do over, I would get a smaller one that fits on the edge better.
If you look at Shooter's pictures, he used a different model of Hunter, but they all pretty much work. You have to make sure its powered by batteries though. Cause the heater/AC units do not supply power.
but you do need room for the switch at the tip if you want to use the high/low fan for the AC unit. Heater only has 1 speed.

The digital thermostat is much more accurate and easier to set than the analog one.

Agreed, especially on the accuracy part, most noticable in cool/cold weather.

Re: Hunter Digital Thermostat
I thought the pictures look familiar....Yes, the temp setting is much more accurate. Using a house thermostat is much cheaper as well, you could buy one made for an RV but it will cost around $100.00 (made by Atwood).

I installed the Hunter in my 29RLBS which has a Dometic A/C unit. No problem and same wiring as shown in the pix.
With the original thermostat you never can be sure exactly what temperature your set on. With the digital, you know exactly and that it will control to +- 1 or 2 degrees, whichever you set it for.
Funny story about the digital TStat. We crossed SD going west to east on I-90 in July, 2007. Around 1:00 p.m. just east of the Badlands the truck thermometer registerd 106*F. When we got to the campground in Sioux Falls that evening and opened up the Cat, the 2-digit TStat simply showed "HI". So I said, hi back and turned on the A/C unit.
By the time the sun went down, the A/C really started to work and it cooled off pretty good.

Re: Hunter Digital Thermostat
I got mine hooked up the right way this week end. I had it hooked up like the top picture but, my thermostat was the bottom picture. Next time I will read the lettering. I also replaced the vents with new ones from D&W. Boy have these improvements made a big difference.

This Hunter Model has a Remote Control
Hunter thermostat, model 42996. But look here, this one's got the remote control. Now, we don't need to get out of bed to put the heat on in the morning!

Re: Hunter Digital Thermostat
Now that would be handy. I don't usually run my heat all night because it draws the battery down too much. Does the remote have a display to set the temperature?

Nope, there's no display on the remote. Each tap of the button, for heat or AC, changes the >current< temperature by 1 degree. And, you can only change the temperature by 2 degrees at a time. This means that you need to wait until the current temperature changes by a least 1 degree before you ask for more change. Seems a little odd by my explanation, but it works fine. I just hit the heat button a couple of times from the bedside and the heat comes on. Then, if I hear the "clunk" noise (gas valve shutting off) and want more heat, we just hit the button a few more times.

What type of switch needs to be used to operate the hi/low setting of the a/c?

It's a 125V single pole/single throw mini-switch that's available in the parts department of most Radio Shacks. That's the one that I used.

Now that is slicker than monkey snot! I like that approach. Do you have a direct line of sight from your bed to the thermostat or is the remote IR?
Thanks for posting, that is very cool!!! (no pun intended...at least I don't think so)

Re: Hunter Digital Thermostat
I bought the Hunter model 42999B. I see a question about the hi/low fan speed...do I need to wire up a switch for that? I assume there isn't a switch for that on the thermostat...right? If so, does someone have a pic of how that would wire in with this model?
A pic of the overall lay out with the new thermostat and switch would be great!
Thanks,
Cory

Re: Hunter Digital Thermostat
Cory, yours will be exactly the same as the pic above. Attach the Blue wire that comes out of the wall to one side of the new switch and the other side of the switch is wired to the "G" connection on the T-stat. You may have one unused wire coming from the furnace when your done. I think it's red but I could be wrong. It supplied 5 volts to the old T-Stat but the new one doesn't need it.

How do you change it from 2 to 1 degrees? I'm sure mines set at 2 but I want it tighter than that.

Here is the link for the install for the Hunter thermostat for the DuoTherm unit. I believe it is the same wiring diagram. I used a Dremel to notch out the plastic for the hi/lo switch.

So I am hooking this up today...the picture of the one like I have...42995B....the orange wire in my original hook up was unused. The red and brown were both hooked up in the old wiring. I don't see what is happening with either of those two wires in your picture.

I think I got it...it is supposed to be the brown wire hooked to the first pole. The brown would be the AC!
