Post by GRIZBARB on 3/27/2009, 12:40 pm

The wife and I just picked up our new 2007 RLSE last week. Weather was warmer then in Minnesota, up to 65 degrees and now it is back to reality with 30 degrees. We are new to trailer camping as we have spent the past 10 years tent camping at historical re-enactments with primitive gear. Have to get used the new life style but I don't think it will take long.
Barb - my wife, retired at the end of last year and decided a trailer would be better than second home in Florida. I was very happy to hear that and decided it saved us a few dollars. We had a 2003 Chevy pickup and she then decided that we need a new truck to pull the new camper. I guess I am just lucky. Of course it means I can't retire for a few more years but I have to wait for the economy to recover anyway.
I have been reading the posts on the forum for the past few weeks and am very pleased with the content. Hope to have a few posts myself when I get a few nights in the WC.

Hello GRIZBARB and welcome to the forum.

What kind of truck did you end up getting, a FORD Laughing or another Chevy  Just kidding....

Please update your signature to reflect you model # and tow vehicle.

Thanks. I see I needed to go into my profile and turn the signature on. As you see it is a Chevy Laughing. I looked at Ford also but just couldn't do it!

Welcome ya'll,

I wanna see some pic's of the primitive camping. Was it civil war stuff ?

I've done my share of primitive canoe camping but nothing like what ya'll were probably doing.

welcome from a neighbor just an hour down river!

Enjoy your WC. I was a tent camper for 30 seasons before enjoying a popup for 5 and then moving to our WC last year.

Always glad to be joined by another member; especially one with a new Chevy! :P

Welcome to the forum. Retirement is great. You gotta have a plan, though. Glad you got the fifth-wheel, that makes planning much easier. We just couldn't see any sense in retiring and sitting on the porch watching the world go by. Hope you get to retire soon.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome!
The type of re-enactment I do is French and Indian War (1750-60's). I still enjoy it very much and most of it is small back pack with oil cloth and wool blanket for shelter. Sometimes in a canoe and sometimes on foot but mostly in Minnesota along the Canadian border. Hunting with flintlocks and fishing with linen line and hand forged hooks. The wife doesn't do this with me very much but enjoys getting out and camping. Just something about sleeping on the ground with nothing but a wool blanket for comfort doesn't do it for her anymore.
To see my recent adventure you can look at the following link:
http://frontierfolk.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=21798&highlight=sayer
I am the big guy with my back to you standing by the voyageur bunks with the birch bark canoe in the overhead. Yes they were too small but at least I wasn't on the ground.
I will try not to put off retirement too long. Just have to convince the DW and we have been planning this for the past 5 years.

GrizBarb,

Welcome to the site, and I especially welcome another Chevy owner! The battle enactment sounds like a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing the pics!

I like the pic's. That looks pretty interesting. Is there some reason you couldn't do it in the summer ? Man that looks cold no matter how many layers of clothes you have on. BURRRRRRRR
