K & N Air Filter

Has anyone installed a K & N Air Filter or similar air system? Just curious how much it improved gas mileage and power.

I put one on my '98 Chevy gasser and it didn't do a thing other than sound cool when you opened it up. That's my experience anyway.

K&N and any other after market product is not recommended for the 6.0 PSD. Yes it flows more air, but also flows more damaging particles. The OEM 6.0 filter system is very good from the factory. It supports up to 500 hp. Most PSD websites suggest keeping your stock system on the 6.0
To get more mpg they are replacing the stock exhaust with 4 inch, changing to 3.73 or 3.55 gears, driving at 1800 rpm, and some have installed a cat delete pipe.." not legal". Empty they are getting from 17-21 mpg with the 6.0

I used to have a K&N, did not notice any difference at all. The K&N has a reputation for dusting engines (letting dirt in and ruining them). I run the Ford AIS (the one that comes on the 6.0) on my 7.3.

If you go to www.thedieselplace.com they have a sticky on testing a bunch of air filters pretty informative. It does show that the stock paper filter is the way to go, No horsepower, torque gain, or fuel mileage increase, from the aftermarket filters It also shows the dirt that gets by the filters as well.

That's what I have read and did not put on on my truck.

Over at www.turbodieselregister.com the collective wisdom is the same. I wouldn't use one for a different reason. I'm keeping my Ram and CTD bone stock until all the warranties run out. Given the slightest reason, the dealer will void your warrantee like a hot potatoe.
