Tow vehicle tires
So, for those of you that have replaced factory tires; what tires did you use as a replacement?
I just replaced my BF Goodrich with the same after about 30,000 miles. Wondering about opinions of others... :|

I had Dunlop discoverer A/T pretty nice now I have the Uniroyal Liberators from Walmart with road hazord. I mainly went with them since I can get them fixed if any problems at any Walmart and camping and traveling I thought that would be a nice perk

Shooter,
Are the Michelins the ATX model? I was thinking about those for the next set.

My brother gave (bought) me a set of Dunlop Radial Rover from his shop. They are crap. I can't wait to replace them and do the longest burn out before taking them off. My last set prior to them and after the factory set was Bridgestone Revo 265/75r16E A/Ts. I loved those tires. Rode good, quiet, no vibration at 40mph)

The Michilin LTX is a fantastic tire. I have been running it on my company truck for years (40k miles year) and am also running it on my personal truck. It is strong and quiet. They sell them at Sams.

I replace the OE Goodyear's with Michelin LTX's. The Michelin's aren't showing half the wear that the Goodyear's did at about the same mileage.

Just ponied up $900 clams tonight for a new set of Goodyear Wranglers prograde with silent armour. I will get the truck back in the morning and will post after some test driving. I have heard good reviews and anything has to be better than the OE conintental contitrac's that I am replacing. Wife has a set of michelin's 18's on her navigator and she has 60,000 on those without complaint.

Cooper SLT's for now, next set I am going back to Cooper ST's. The SLT's have never felt right to me and the truck likes to wander. They are holding up great and should make the trip out west just fine.

Michelin LTX
Dave:
I put on the LTX and am very happy with them. If you want to see them let me know as I go by Channel 2 about 10x a day.
I just checked Tire Rack price and I paid (including mounting) same at Big O - after beating them up a bit.

I run studded Coopers in the winter on my company truck, great tire. I have a set for my truck, but don't use them much (fair weather camper).

Re: Tow vehicle tires
Michelin LTX M/S. I couldn't wear any tread off the Goodyears or Dunlops before they developed goose eggs on them. I suggested to the dealers that it must be due to the weight of the 7.3 and the overhang from my truck camper but they didn't agree. Bought the Dunlops because they were cheaper than the Michelins and they used to make a good motorcycle tire, but it turned out to be a mistake. I have never had a problem with Michelins. Michelins on all my vehicles except the Wing and the Wildcat. They don't make motorcycle tires and I'm going to try to go with the Michelin XPS Rib 225/75R16 on the Cat when funds allow and if they will fit. I have run those rib tires on livestock and equipment trailers for many years and they have been great tires carrying much heavier loads than the Cat. Also will be doing whatever possible to get rid of those questionable valve stems that come on the Wildcats or at least came on mine.

Michelins are all I ever ran on my enduro bike, never had a problem out of them either, never a flat even over a grueling 200 mile rough terrain run... They make excellent street bike tires also.

My bad, I guess I should have said nobody around here carried them for the GL 1500, at least that I found for a period of a few years. The tires they made specifically for the Wing 1500(Hi-Tours) had a huge recall in the US in 1996(?) due to catastrophic failures and lawsuits. Before that was the Gold Standard which also had a recall. They now make a Pilot but those came out in 2006 which was after the last time I replaced my tires. Well Metzlers have been good on the Wing and it seems Michelins don't like Wings. Didn't mean to hijack the thread...Cats a little heavy to tow with the Wing.

I would probably stay with the Metz also.... I'd rate their street bike tires higher than Mich...

Re: Tow vehicle tires
I run the goodyear wrangler silentarmors (load range E). quiet tire with great traction year round and very even wear (rotate every 7K or so). I have 35K on them now and plan on getting another 10k before I have to replace them. I will be purchasing the same tire when I need new ones. One thing that I like about these is that the sipping (sp?) goes about 80% or more thru the tread.
I have a lot of friends that have the michilen LTX tires and really like them also.

Re: Tow vehicle tires
I have had Michelin LTX MS on all previous vehicles. Last set I had 65k on them with tread to spare. Only thing is they looked their age and started to develop some dry cracks. I have Bridgestone Duravis on my GMC now (factory). I have about 19k miles on them and although the treadwear looks ok, there are a few, albeit small chunks missing. Will be putting Michelin LTX MS as soon as needed!

Re: Tow vehicle tires
We have the Bridgstone REVO’s on the truck. I really like the tires. I do not actually need the AT though, so next time I may go with a street tire vice a AT. I have over 40K miles on them and still have at least 10k left on them.

Re: Tow vehicle tires
When I bought my Chevy from my dealer they had a tires for life deal going. When the tread hits 4/16 they will replace them for free for as long as I own the truck! It came with the Duravis tires from the factory...they made it about 34k until they wore out.
I replaced them with Michelin LTX A/T2. Cost me an extra $90 for these. We will see how they go tomorrow when we take off for vacation!

Re: Tow vehicle tires
That is what I ended up putting on my Dodge. I love them. They do remarkably well in off road conditions and the ride is great. I have the 10 plys and to me it feels like a 6 ply. I hope you like them. They seemed to wear alot for the first 10k miles, but since then they are holding just fine.

Re: Tow vehicle tires
I replaced mine with the LTX AT/2. They are quiet for sure and a nice ride for a tire with a 126 load index. I only have 2.5k miles on mine.

Bought the Michelin LTX MS 10 plies for mine . Like some of the others said they ride very good. Very pleased with them. Was going to go with the AT/2 but they were nearly a hundred more bucks at my dealer so I just dropped for the M/S. Happy so far.

Re: Tow vehicle tires
I have been running the Toyo Open Country AT tires, Love the ride and they are pretty quite. The only problem (if you want to call it that) is that with the weight of the diesel truck they wear a little faster than i would like. The good news is that they have a 5 year 40,000 mile warranty so i got almost 50% credit towards a new set.
