Beautiful Colorado, Ugly Moment

Post by Richard Mondavi on 2/22/2009, 2:00 pm

Here's a picture of my rig on westbound I-70 just outside the Eisenhower Tunnel in Colorado. A brake line on the truck ruptured going up the grade and when I tested the brakes prior to going down I discovered the problem. Thank God there was a truck pullout right there. Good Sam ERS took care of us.

The truck was a year old when I bought it. It had been modified (after market) with a duel exhaust system. Apparently the brake line was raised up to make room for the exhaust pipe. The hanger used to hold the brake line up broke and the line fell on the hot exhaust pipe. Testing the brakes brought on another of those butt puckering moments.

Good job of catching the problem before it became potentially life threatening. Glad everyone is ok and you got the problem resolved quickly.

I'm just glad you had the intuition to check'em,,,, a lot of people would just trust'em....

Thats the same reason I don't trust a green light, I look both ways before i take off,,, Cause I know some fool has to much trust in their brakes

That is a BAD place to have brake problems! It's interesting that the cat and it's electric brakes might have saved you if you had not caught the problem.
