Disneyland RV parks

Post by jetskier on 2/10/2009, 7:10 am

The wife is planning the annual family vacation already. Any suggestions for a RV park near Dinneyland? We looked at the Anaheim Resort RV and the Anaheim RV Village so far. They both have good reviews and seem to have nice, helpful staff (at least on the phone)

The advantage of the first is a shuttle that runs to the park every 20min all day for $4/adults, $1/kids. The latter is every 3 hours and $3/person.

We'll come down Hwy395, I'm trying to figure out if it is better to come down Hwy 14 to I-5 or stay on hwy395 to I-15 and over. Mileage and time are about the same, but traffic is the concern. I've been on I-5 and it's not fun, but LA is not fun anytime. Any thoughts?

The drive is around 460miles, in CA where the speed limit is 55mph for towing, with three little boys yelling and screaming in the back seat. I don't know if I want to go anymore.

Don't know about rv parks around Disneyland. I think I'd go for the one that has a shuttle every 20 minutes. Otherwise you might wind up taking a taxi or driving yourself if you miss the shuttle going to Disneyland .... or taking a taxi if you miss it when you want to go back to camp.

That's what we were leaning toward because of the shuttle times. I thought there may be someone with experience staying at one of these places. We really just need a safe place to park and sleep. Last time, we flew down for too much and stayed at the California Grand Hotel for too much per night and too much for the eats. $55/night at the RV park sounds like a deal to me compared to the $275+ per night. It wasn't a hard decision to make this time (fly vs. drive).

Here is a lodging map for that area, i think it has one rv park on it that you didn't mention,"Harbor RV Park". Note that "Travelers World is now the Aneheim RV Village that you mentioned. We always hotel it when there so i can't give you a review, sorry.

jetskier,

Don't know if you have ever used this site for CG reviews, but the reviews are from campers just like you and I. Try it out.

www.rvparkreviews.com

You pick the state, then city, and it lists all the CG's in the area.

Jetskier,
We made reservations at the Anaheim RV Resort. Some on RVNET recommended that CG. When are you going? We will be there June 24-28th.

The week before. June 14-20th. The 14th and 20th being driving days. We ended up making a reservation at the Anahiem Resort RV park too.

Anahiem Resort is as good as any RV park in the area. It's clean and well kept but like any CG's in the area, the sites are tight. The "comfort station" bathrooms are especially nice.
Depending on how many of you there are, you may want to skip the shuttle and drive to DLR. Parking is (or was) $11 / day and they have room for oversized vehicles like P/U trucks at no extra charge.
Have fun! WDW

We've stayed at Orangeland and were not that impressed. It's basically a parking lot in an industrial area. We were there in August during a heat wave, asphalt got so soft that I put swirl marks in it with my truck as I was parking the rig.

Then we stayed at Canyon RV Park and that's a nice park on the Santa Ana River. It's a bit further away from D-land, but for us, so much more worth it.

Orangeland is about 4 miles away from the park by surface streets and Canyon RV Park is about 17 miles away via hwy 91 and I5.

Both RV parks are about the same price.

Not true anymore, oversized are charged extra. Regular vehicles are $12 and oversized are $17. I'm so glad to have the premium annual pass. Parking is included and we always drive the Super Duty, because the oversize lot is right next to the tram station. cheers

Whatever you do, don't get on I5. I've driven the I5 both solo and towing and I avoid it in that area like the plague. I10 isn't that much better, but if you take I15 down to the 91 and then head west, that's a better route.

When I head north, I take I15 to the 395 to the 58 and go through Bakersfield to get to I5. It adds about 45 miles but cuts off an hour and lowers my blood pressure about 100 points. Laughing

Thats good to know ~ we havent parked there in 3 years.
It is nice that the oversize parking is the closest to the trams. Very convenient!

Re: Disneyland RV parks

Post by jetskier on 6/22/2009, 6:45 am

We made it back...I didn't have time to post while we were down there. I-5 southbound is not a fun drive when towing. It is beat up pretty bad in the truck lanes. Not to mention all the crazy lane shifts and interchanges. The traffic moved rather fast though.

No major mishaps in our travels with the WC. I had to replace the water pump head. When I hooked up to the city water, I had a leak on the threads of the pump. They were nearly stripped before and I had them sealed for dry camping. They gave it up when I hooked up to city water. My accumulator tank also failed. I think there is a tear in the diaphragm as it leaked too. I did use a 45 psi regulator, but it still went. There was a Camping World in Bueno Park about 8 miles away that saved the day.

Trip mileage down ~ 10.75mpg, Back home ~ 9.25mpg. I had a serious cross and head wind heading back home from Kramer Junction (Hwy 395/SR58) all the way home. My inlaws didn't fair to well with there V10 gasser. I think they got around 6-7mpg pulling their rig. They only went about 150-175 miles before they hit a 1/4 tank (29 gal). I went about 350 on my 38 gallon tank.

The Anaheim Resort RV park was nice. There was a shuttle stop to the park every 20-30 minutes. It was clean for the area of town it was in. It is right next to I-5 on one end, but there is a sound wall that keeps the traffic noise to a steady hum. You get used to it real quick as it is constant. I can tell you it didn't keep me up at night.

At Disneyland, we walked and waited in line and occasionally rode a ride or two. Utilizing the FastPass was a nice tool. We had the 5 day hopper pass and stayed at the park for most of the day with an afternoon break for lunch and naps. I'm looking forward to a recovery nap. Avoid the old Matterhorn. It's not nice on your back!

With AAA, we got free parking in the Mickey garage in the oversize area (it was reallly close to the trams). We only used it the one day the shuttle didn't start until 8am. We had a reservation at 7:50am for Goofy's kitchen. The shuttle was nicer just because I didn't have to drive and fight traffic.
